FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Fredericksburg City Public Schools is hosting a Career Fair on June 25, 2025, offering a chance for job seekers to connect directly with school leaders and learn about open positions.

According to Sue Keffer, Chief Human Resources Officer for the division, the school system is currently hiring for 21 teaching positions. Open roles include elementary general education, special education at both the elementary and secondary levels, a behavior support specialist, reading specialist, elementary school counselor, middle school science and librarian, high school math and theater, and several division-wide positions like school psychologist and speech pathologist. There are also openings for a Head Start teacher and an early childhood special education teacher.

SPOTSYLVANIA: Plane Crash and I-95 Shooting

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. – A chaotic Friday afternoon in Spotsylvania County saw both a small plane crash and a road rage shooting just minutes apart, prompting two separate investigations by Virginia State Police.

At around 2:15 p.m. on June 20, a road rage incident on Interstate 95 southbound escalated when shots were fired near the 122-mile marker. Police say the confrontation involved a black Tesla and a black pickup truck, possibly a Toyota Tacoma. The Tesla was struck multiple times by gunfire, but no one was injured. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Virginia State Police Division II Dispatch at 804-750-8778.

Bridge Over Aquia Creek Reopens Early on Rock Hill Road

STAFFORD, Va. – Rock Hill Church Road is open to traffic once again after bridge maintenance wrapped up ahead of schedule.

According to a Wednesday update from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the road reopened following work on the temporary, single-lane bridge over Aquia Creek. The detour that routed drivers around the closed section via Garrisonville, Joshua, and Mountainview roads has now been lifted.

A strong cold front moving through the region today is expected to bring a line of powerful thunderstorms, prompting a Level 3 (Enhanced Risk) for severe weather across much of Northern Virginia, including the I-95 corridor, according to the National Weather Service in Sterling.

As of 11 a.m., temperatures were already soaring into the mid to upper 80s, with oppressive humidity making it feel even hotter. At Washington National Airport, it was 84°F with a heat index of 91°F. In Fredericksburg, it was 86°F and sunny, with wind gusts reaching 18 mph. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor was already reporting a temperature of 91°F and a heat index near 99°F.
