Protein is back on top thanks to the MAHA movement, and southerners have been smoking and thriving on it for generations. Dixie Bones has been serving it for over 30 years, so it’s nice to see pork and beef back where they belong.
There’s something undeniably magnetic about a great flea market. Maybe it’s the thrill of not knowing what you’ll find around the next corner — a mid-century lamp, a stack of vintage records, a piece of jewelry that looks like it has a story to tell. If that kind of treasure hunt speaks to you, mark your calendar: The Big Flea Market is returning to the Fredericksburg Expo on August 15–16, and it’s shaping up to be the kind of weekend that’s hard to forget.
The Big Flea isn’t just a shopping event — it’s a celebration of the one-of-a-kind. Whether you’re a seasoned antique collector, a vintage fashion devotee, a furniture flipper, or simply someone who appreciates finding something special at a price that doesn’t sting, this event has something for you. Vendors will fill the Fredericksburg Expo with an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage items, collectibles, clothing, furniture, jewelry, and so much more — all offered at genuinely affordable prices.
That variety is part of what makes The Big Flea such a draw. You might show up looking for one thing and walk out with something you didn’t even know you needed — and that’s entirely the point.
One of the most practical perks of this event? Your $12 admission ticket is good for both days. That means you can take your time, come back for a second pass, or bring a friend along on day two without reaching for your wallet again. For a weekend of exploration and discovery, it’s hard to beat the value.
For locals and visitors alike, The Big Flea represents a rare opportunity to experience this beloved event right here in Fredericksburg. There’s genuine pride in having an event of this scale come to town — and for those who’ve attended in past years, the return is always a welcome one.
Whether you’re hunting for a statement piece for your home, a unique gift, or just a reason to get out and explore, The Big Flea delivers the kind of experience that’s increasingly rare: browsing without an algorithm, discovering without a search bar, and finding something truly one of a kind.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of one of Fredericksburg’s most anticipated market weekends. Grab your $12 ticket, bring a friend (or two), and come ready to find something amazing.

Birmingham Green is a safety-net for vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities. For 99 years the nonprofit has served residents from five Northern Virginia jurisdictions — Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, Fauquier, and Alexandria — with care, community, and comprehensive 24-hour services. Today the organization supports approximately 300 individuals who could not otherwise access high-quality skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care.

With the dog days of August upon us, Nelson notes that the family has inherited a small mixed-breed dog named Jack—very old, stubborn, and already partial to Dixie Bones BBQ meats (though still working out what to do with the bones).

The AI & Data Centers Justice Coalition has launched a multi-state community listening campaign that includes dedicated sessions for Virginia residents concerned about the impacts of data centers.
Data centers are not inevitable — they are chosen. In Virginia and across the country, many are sited in low-income communities and communities of color that often lack the resources and infrastructure to respond effectively.
