Haymarket Council Approves Worship Space in QBE Building With Yearly Reviews, Traffic Study Requirement

HAYMARKET, Va. – The Haymarket Town Council voted unanimously on May 5, 2025, to approve a special use permit (SUP) allowing a religious group to use leased space at the QBE Building on Washington Street for public assembly, adding several conditions—including an annual review of the permit.

The decision comes after nearly eight months of review by the town’s planning staff, Planning Commission, and Town Council, marking what staff described as a “normal review procedural timeline” for a special use request of this type.

MANASSAS, Va. – Fifteen residents were named Outstanding Volunteers by the City of Manassas during a recognition dinner and reception held Tuesday, April 29, at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts. One award was given posthumously. The honorees were chosen from among more than 450 individuals who regularly give their time to support the city.

According to a city press release, these volunteers were celebrated for their work across historic preservation, emergency response, civic boards, and community outreach. From guiding museum tours to running community holiday events and supporting zoning appeals, each has made a lasting mark on the city.

Yorkshire Fire Department Mourns Sudden Loss of Longtime President

In a statement shared on social media, the department described Frye as a devoted public servant who dedicated over 18 years to serving the community. His sudden passing has deeply impacted not only the department but the broader fire service family in the region.

Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Minnieville and Prince William Parkway

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in a collision at the intersection of Minnieville Road and Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on May 10. Investigators say the rider of a 2019 Indian FTR 1200 motorcycle was heading east on Minnieville Road when he ran a red light at Prince William Parkway. At the same time, a 2019 Kia Soul, traveling westbound, began turning left onto Prince William Parkway when the two vehicles collided.

Stafford Narrowly Approves $2.95M Warehouse Purchase Despite Pushback

STAFFORD, Va. – The Stafford County Board of Supervisors narrowly approved a $2.95 million warehouse purchase on Blackjack Road, siding with school officials who say the facility is essential to meet the district’s growing infrastructure needs, despite concerns from some supervisors who argued the deal was rushed and overpriced.

In a 4-3 vote, the board passed Resolution R25-105, authorizing Stafford County Public Schools to use leftover funds from its FY2024 budget to buy the building at 42 Blackjack Road. The warehouse currently houses several school division operations, including IT storage, bus driver training, and nutrition services. School leaders say owning the space will end the need to rent it and provide a long-term solution as the division grows.

Frogs Take the Field for the First Time Tonight in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Fredericksburg Nationals are hopping into local history tonight as they officially take the field as the Fredericksburg Frogs for the very first time. First pitch against the Lynchburg Hillcats is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The Frogs identity pays tribute to the city’s historic all-Black baseball team, which played in Fredericksburg from 1919 into the late 1930s. Known in the press as “the world’s hoppinest team,” the Frogs entertained crowds downtown for decades. With few surviving records or photos of the original team, the FredNats partnered with the Fredericksburg Area Museum, Germanna Community College, and Dovetail Cultural Resource Group to research and bring the Frogs back to life for fans today.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Taco lovers along Caroline Street are disappointed as word spreads that Juan More Taco is closing its doors in Fredericksburg.

The locally loved taco shop, tucked in a historic 1825 building at the corner of George and Caroline streets, announced on May 2 that it will close after six years in business. Owner Maria Martin shared that lease negotiations with the landlord fell through, forcing her and her son, Jose, to shut down the popular eatery.
