HAYMARKET, Va. — Waterfall Road (Route 601) between Mount Atlas Lane (Route 731) and Jackson Hollow Road (Route 680) will be closed to through traffic from 6:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, until 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, to replace the bridge over Catharpin Creek, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Those needing to reach properties along Waterfall Road during the 10-day closure will have access, but will not be able to go beyond the bridge work site in either direction.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va.— Prince William County has been recognized with a Commonwealth of Virginia IT Award for PWC Works, the county’s centralized online engagement platform, in the category of “Serving the Customer and Business.”

The annual awards program, sponsored by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) and Government Technology magazine, honors excellence in public sector information technology innovation. The award was announced during the 28th Annual Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) on Sept. 16 in Richmond, Va.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday (Sept. 20, 2025) at 2:20 a.m. on Interstate 395 southbound in the City of Alexandria.

A 2008 Toyota Corolla crashed and became disabled in the southbound lanes near the three-mile-marker. This crash was not reported to law enforcement. A 2021 Hyundai Venue travelling southbound at a high rate of speed then struck the disabled Corolla.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The City of Fredericksburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Casarotti as the new Director of Parks, Recreation, and Events (FPRE). Casarotti brings over 20 years of diverse experience in parks and recreation leadership at both the local and federal levels.

As Parks, Recreation, and Events Director, Casarotti oversees the City’s parks, facilities, programs, and community events. She leads strategic planning, budgeting, and capital projects while guiding staff to provide high-quality, inclusive recreational services that enrich community life in Fredericksburg.

The statewide median sales price reached $430,000, a 3.6% increase from August 2024. Despite sales holding flat, higher price points pushed the total sold dollar volume to $5.1 billion, up 4.4% year-over-year.

In total, there were 24,606 active listings statewide at the end of August, representing a 26.2% surge from last year. Buyers also saw more new listings coming online, with nearly 13,000 properties added to the market during the month.

GAINESVILLE, Va. – Families at The Goddard School of Gainesville (Haymarket) collected 436 food items for the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry.

The donations came from families and staff at the preschool and will go to support individuals and families in Haymarket, Gainesville, and surrounding communities.

Stafford County Schools are equipped with multiple lockdown activation points that allow staff to immediately secure a campus in the event of a potential threat. When triggered, these points activate alarms throughout the school and simultaneously notify both Stafford Schools’ Safety and Security personnel and local law enforcement.

The activation was quickly confirmed by the on-duty School Resource Officer at Mountain View High School, who responded to the auxiliary gym after receiving unclear school radio traffic referencing that location. A large-scale law enforcement response followed, including members of the Stafford Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team who were still on duty after an unrelated earlier operation. Other law enforcement agencies with ties to the school also chose to respond to assist.

MercyFest is the annual fundraiser put on by House of Mercy, a nonprofit that helps families across Northern Virginia with its food pantry, thrift store, and donation center. It serves over 100 families every day, and last year provided groceries, clothing, and other basics to thousands—impacting more than 50 zip codes in the region.
