VDOT Fredericksburg District Weekly Travel Alert reported. On I-95 Northbound at Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) in Stafford County, milling and paving work will occur Monday–Friday from 9 p.m.–4:30 a.m. with single and double lane closures between mile markers 142-145.

Multiple projects are also scheduled on Route 1, Fall Hill Avenue, Princess Anne Street in the City of Fredericksburg, and various Stafford County routes including Route 17, Route 606, Route 610, Route 627, Route 652, Route 709, Route 751, and Route 1264, involving guardrail work, paving, median improvements, and resurfacing with flagging and alternating lane closures.

The Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee (CTAC) for the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) met on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and recommended priority rankings for SmartScale state funding applications. The committee approved separate lists for the George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC) regional projects and FAMPO projects. These focused on intersection improvements, minor road widening, and new connectors.

The recommendations will go to the FAMPO Policy Committee for final action. Projects target the 2033-2034 six-year plan window.

Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help with information about two recent crashes on Interstate 95 in the region.

The first happened early today, June 26, 2026. Around 4:08 a.m., a dark-colored Honda Civic traveling northbound at a possible high rate of speed left the road and overturned in the median at the 117-mile marker in Spotsylvania County. The 26-year-old male driver died from his injuries.

The Fredericksburg Area MPO’s Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee advanced its Complete Streets Plan for public review this summer, emphasizing the need for safer, more connected transportation networks as the region grows toward a projected 614,620 residents by 2055.

CTAC also ranked SmartScale funding priorities, supported further study of additional river crossings and southern routes to reduce congestion, and addressed ongoing TIP refinements and local maintenance concerns.

Stafford County is advancing revisions to its Comprehensive Plan that include a new alignment for a proposed outer connector and river crossing. This comes as regional transportation planners continue debating the project’s role in addressing long-term growth in the Fredericksburg area.

Residents of the Prince William area have convenient, car-free options for celebrating Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary this year. OmniRide is launching a free round-trip bus service to the Pentagon Metrorail Station on Saturday, July 4, complementing Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Fireworks Trains that Potomac Local first reported on May 22.

The special OmniRide service aims to help riders avoid heavy traffic and parking challenges associated with one of the region’s busiest travel days. Buses will run from two key locations in Prince William County: Stonebridge Garage in Woodbridge and the University Lot in Gainesville.

“Virginians are paying less at the pump this week as gasoline prices have fallen for three straight weeks, with the statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline dropping to $3.77 per gallon,” The Center Square reported. “Virginia’s average price was down from $3.91 a week ago and $4.32 a month ago.”

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan noted prices fell in 47 states last week and could keep trending lower with steady market conditions.

“Milling and paving near exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) between mile markers 142-145 in Stafford County,” the Virginia Department of Transportation reported. “Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. Double lane closure starts at 10 p.m.”

Multiple overnight ramp closures are also scheduled for the Exit 143 area on I-95 southbound through next week, with drivers urged to use alternate routes such as Exit 148 (Quantico) to Route 1. Work runs nightly from 9 or 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

City Council discussed shifting parking management on the 1000 block of Sophia Street during a June 2026 work session, weighing revenue potential against impacts on downtown businesses, employees, and Riverfront Park visitors.

The city owns approximately 37 spaces on the block near Riverfront Park, intertwined with adjacent parcels owned by Stover General in a “piano keys” pattern of alternating ownership. A legacy free parking agreement dating to roughly 2007-2009 has allowed unrestricted use, but Stover General is moving toward a paid model similar to the William Street parking garage operated by Bigos.
