MANASSAS, Va. â Fifteen residents were named Outstanding Volunteers by the City of Manassas during a recognition dinner and reception held Tuesday, April 29, at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts. One award was given posthumously. The honorees were chosen from among more than 450 individuals who regularly give their time to support the city.
According to a city press release, these volunteers were celebrated for their work across historic preservation, emergency response, civic boards, and community outreach. From guiding museum tours to running community holiday events and supporting zoning appeals, each has made a lasting mark on the city.

YORKSHIRE, Va. â The Yorkshire Volunteer Fire Department is grieving the unexpected loss of its President and Life Member, Daniel Frye, who passed away at his home early Wednesday morning.
In a statement shared on social media, the department described Frye as a devoted public servant who dedicated over 18 years to serving the community. His sudden passing has deeply impacted not only the department but the broader fire service family in the region.
Manassas Park Fire Rescue also paid tribute, posting their condolences and honoring Frye as a "remarkable community member."

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. â The remains of three U.S. soldiers, believed to have died during the first Battle of Fredericksburg in 1862, were formally buried last week in the Fredericksburg National Cemetery. Their discovery during a 2015 excavation project on Sophia Street set off years of archaeological work, historical research, and coordination between the City of Fredericksburg and the National Park Service.

Parents Charged with Murder After Toddler Dies from Fentanyl Exposure
A 2-year-old girlâs death at the Red Roof Inn on April 16 has resulted in murder and drug charges for her parents, William Nathaniel Fuller, 28, and Markita Ayanna Williams, 25. The child was found to have fentanyl in her system. Police say the father removed items from the hotel before emergency services arrived. An unsecured firearm was also found in the room. Both were arrested on May 1 and are being held without bond.

MANASSAS, Va. â The Manassas National Battlefield Park will unveil a new permanent exhibit, âFaces of the Fallen,â and host Memorial Day observances from May 24 to May 26, 2025, at Henry Hill, 6511 Sudley Road, Manassas.
The exhibit dedication will take place on May 24 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Throughout the Memorial Day weekend, the park will feature guided programs, artillery salutes, walking tours, and family-friendly activities in remembrance of the 3,500 soldiers who died in the battles of Manassas.
