Stafford High School Assistant Principal Benjamin Diggs top in state

Stafford High School Assistant Principal Benjamin Diggs has been named the 2023 Outstanding Secondary School Assistant Principal of Virginia by a panel of school leaders representing the Principal Awards Committee of the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP).

“Mr. Diggs embodies the spirit of our learning community,” said Stafford Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas W. Taylor. “He is an exceptional leader, strong administrator, and sincere role model for students and staff. In addition to supporting others, he continually seeks personal growth opportunities in our school system. We are proud of him, and congratulate him on this truly worthy designation.”

Fredericksburg regional companies look to interns for help

Two student interns spoke to a group of Fredericksburg-area business owners about what they’ve learned in the workplace and how interning enriches their overall education.

Mailynn Nguyen, 17, intern for the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, helping the organization with marketing efforts. The Stafford County Public Schools student is studying data science.

Stafford schools failed to notify students of National Merit commendations

Stafford County is now on the list of public school divisions that admits to not informing students of their National Merit Scholarship award.

Six students at Mountain View High School were not told about their recognition in time to file college applications. The school principal notified the school system administration about the error.

Stafford County School Board appoints first student representative

A student representative sits on the Stafford County School Board for the first time.

During the school board meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the School Board voted unanimously to appoint its first-ever Student Representatives to the Stafford County School Board. Katherine Buckman, a junior at Mountain View High School, will serve as the primary student representative. In contrast, Miss Maraki Solomon, a Brooke Point High School junior, will serve as the alternate student representative. Both students will serve one-year terms.

Stafford schools superintendent plans first ‘listen and learn’ of 2023

Dr. Thomas W. Taylor will leave Stafford County Schools to join Montgomery County this fall.

Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor will meet with residents for his first “Listen and Learn” session of 2023.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held Tuesday, January 17, at Hartwood Elementary School, 14 Shackleford Road, in Hartwood. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Widewater Elementary students name ‘Gunther,’ U.S. Army’s newest horse

This morning, Tuesday, December 20, 2022, soldiers Derek Eich and Brock Emery of the U.S. Army Caisson Platoon presented students at Widewater Elementary School with a commemorative plaque after the kindergarten class won a naming contest for “Gunther,” one of the platoon’s new horses.

The two soldiers answered particular questions about Gunther, including “How soft is Gunther,” (He’s the softest horse ever) “How fast can Gunther run,” (about 35 mph) and “How many friends does Gunther have?” (About 48)

I had a lot of fun today talking to Ms. Sharon Siepel’s business and marketing classes at North Stafford High School.

The bell rang bright and early at 8 a.m., where I stood before a class of about 25 students and talked about founding Potomac Local News, an online news business serving neighborhoods between Manassas and Fredericksburg. I also enjoyed speaking with Ms. Siepel’s 11:30 a.m. class.

UMW, Stafford County schools awarded planning grant for lab school | Free Lance-Star

Stafford high schools earn W!SE Financial Literacy Test awards

Brooke Point, Colonial Forge, and Mountain View High Schools have earned recognition as Working in Support of Education (W!se) Financial Literacy Blue Star Schools for the 2021-2022 school year for outstanding student performance on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test.

To receive this distinction, a school testing more than ten students must achieve an 80% passing rate on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test. Additionally, the school must have either a majority of students in a given grade level take the test, or have the students who took the test achieve a minimum average score of 85%.
