Original post — Police cleared the Georgetown South neighborhood after warning people to stay away at about 3 p.m. today, Monday, July 3, 2023. There’s no word yet on why.

“On June 30th at approximately 7:50 p.m. Deputy D.L. Brookman responded to the Comfort Inn, located at 541 Warrenton Road, for a report of a vandalism. Staff advised a guest broke their washing machines. Deputy Brookman reviewed camera footage of the washing assault in which the suspect pushes on the washing machine door until it broke off the hinges. Another washing machine was also damaged.”

National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms today, with some strong to severe with the greatest threat along and east of the Blue Ridge. Damaging winds and large hail are possible with storms today, and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.”

“Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms between 2 pm and 5 pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”

Manassas Economic Development: “Manassas will boast even more international flair as Eunik Interiors is set to open in Historic Downtown this summer. The company, led by local owner Stergio Zissios, is a European-based custom cabinetry and furniture company with over 60 stores across the globe.”

“Eunik Interiors has leased the 2,500 square foot former Evolution Music space at 8963 Center Street to be the company’s first-ever U.S. showroom. Virginia Railway Express: “The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) has officially opened its new Lifecycle Overhaul and Upgrade (LOU) Facility, which allows the commuter rail service to perform expanded maintenance onsite in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.”

“The LOU features a drop table to remove locomotive and railcar trucks and wheelsets; wheel truing machine to reprofile rolling stock wheelsets; overhead bridge crane with two lift points – one with a 5-ton and the other with a 30-ton capacity; and two tracks, each holding up to four locomotives or railcars.”

Fredericksburg Nationals: “Salem took an early lead on a Salute to Service Sunday and never looked back, beating the FredNats 4-2. The Red Sox tagged Jarlin Susana for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. He allowed a leadoff double to Cutter Coffey, then a single to Allan Castro to put runners on second and third with no outs. A wild pitch allowed Coffey to score, then later in the frame, a sacrifice fly brought Castro in to give the Sox a 2-0 edge.”

“Then in the top of the third, Cutter Coffey singled and stole second base. He moved to third on a passed ball, before scoring on an Allan Castro single to extend the lead to 3-0. Susana did not allow a run beyond that, working five full innings for his longest outing this season.”

On a separate note, we’re hearing rumblings about significant changes coming to Virginia’s only commuter rail system, including weekend service, which we reported last week.

The system continues to see about a third of its pre-pandemic ridership.
