National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Today will bring the first shot for 90 degrees. Skies may be hazy at times due to the wildfire over southern NJ. A backdoor cold front tracks through on Sat, increasing shower chances, especially west of I-95. Expect quieter weather into early next week.”

Air Quality Alert: “The DC region is currently experiencing Code Orange unhealthy air and Code Orange air is forecast for [today], Friday, June 2. Area residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities.”

Fredericksburg Nationals: “The FredNats walked off against the Shorebirds for the second time this week, in an eventful 8-7 victory.”

“Daylen Lile drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, stole second base, and then scored the games’ first run on a Sammy Infante double. Infante later swiped third base, setting him up to score on a Paul Witt sacrifice fly to put Fredericksburg ahead 2-0.”

Woodbridge man guilty of involuntary manslaughter in fatal Route 1 crash

On May 24, 2023, a Prince William County jury found Marvin Anton Cabrera Martinez guilty of one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of reckless driving by speed, and one count of driving without an operator’s license.

Boys, 14, flown to hospital after struck by car in Aquia Harbour

“The 39-year-old driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes, the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. She was subsequently charged by Aquia Harbour Police for driving under the influence. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.”

“Both victims are expected to make a full recovery. The crash investigation remains active and is being investigated by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Safety Unit.”

Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Youngkin eliminating degree requirement for many state jobs

The Center Square: “Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is taking historical measures by eliminating degree requirements and preferences for nearly 90% of commonwealth classified positions. The new “landmark” hiring preferences will provide equal consideration for all qualified applicants and allow state agencies to broaden their recruitment and talent pool.

“On Day 1 we went to work reimagining workforce solutions in government and this key reform will expand opportunities for qualified applicants who are ready to serve Virginians,” said Youngkin. The new hiring practice is set to take effect July 1, adding Virginia to a growing list of states eliminating the degree requirement for state jobs. Youngkin’s office noted the commonwealth advertises an average of over 20,000 job opportunities every year.”
