Manassas City Government: “Manassas City Police Chief/Assistant City Manager Douglas Keen will serve as Interim City Manager beginning in November when the resignation of City Manager W. Patrick Pate becomes effective.”

“Chief Keen was selected by City Council at their Sept. 18 meeting after Council conducted interviews for the position. Pate, who has served as City Manager for the last 10 years, has accepted the City Manager position in Winston-Salem, N.C. His resignation is effective Nov. 3.”

Manassas police: “Aggravated Malicious Wounding: On September 17, 2023, at 3:56 p.m. Manassas City Police responded to the 8800 block of Lane Scott Court for a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they began to canvas the area and located several shell casings. During the investigation, police located a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, and the victim was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.

“A 15-year-old male suspect was identified through the investigation and apprehended without incident. A search warrant was conducted on a residence, leading to evidence collection and a firearm.”


Prince William

Prince William Fire and Rescue: “[On Monday, September 18, 2023, at 5:36 p.m., units were dispatched to the 13400 block of Grouserun Lane (Bristow) for a report of a townhouse on fire. Crews arrived with fire showing from the rear of the structure and spreading to another home. The fire was quickly brought under control. Both homes sustained minor damage.”

“A total of two (2) townhomes were damaged. The Building Official declared one of the homes to be unsafe to occupy displacing two (2) adults temporarily. An adult female occupant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported and then released from a regional medical facility. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated, and the occupant sustained the injuries while working on the propane grill.”

U.S. Postal Service: “The Postal Service also announced it will not levy any additional surcharges for customers this holiday season, offering increased predictability in pricing for customers. There will be no additional fees for residential area delivery, for Saturday delivery or for minimum volumes. USPS will continue to be the most affordable way to mail and ship this holiday season.”

The Center Square: “Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton said Monday she will not be seeking reelection, citing health concerns.”

“The third-term Democrat previously announced she was battling Parkinson’s Disease and receiving treatments. After further testing amid unresponsive treatment, Wexton disclosed she had been diagnosed with Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy, type-p. The congresswoman said the disease is characterized as “’Parkinson’s on steroids.’”


Prince William

Prince William County Government: “During their meeting this afternoon, the Board of County Supervisors unanimously voted to extend the tax payment due date for the vehicle classification of tangible personal property by 90 days.”

“Normally, the vehicle classification of the tangible personal property tax payments is due by October 5 of the calendar year. The approved extension means that the vehicle personal property tax for tax year 2023 will now be due on Jan. 3, 2024.”

Stafford County Government: “Early voting in Stafford County begins on Friday, September 22, 2023. This year’s general election is on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. You may request a mail-in ballot from the General Registrar until October 27, 2023.”

“Early voting will be available at Conference Room ABC of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554. It is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. from September 22, 2023, through November 3, 2023. It will also be available on two Saturdays – October 28, 2023, and November 4, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.”

Prince William County Public Schools: “Signs stating, “No public access to grounds during school hours,” are being installed at every school in the division. Each school will have multiple signs on or around high-traffic areas on the school property.”
