Updated: Crash, fuel spill closes portions of 2 Stafford highways

Update on I-95 tractor-trailer crash

Virginia State Police: At 9:20 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 95 at the 143 mile-marker in Stafford County. A tractor-trailer was entering southbound I95 when it overturned on the entrance ramp and came to rest on its driver’s side, blocking the entrance ramp as well as the right lane. As the tractor-trailer overturned it collided with a second tractor-trailer that was traveling southbound. The driver of the overturned tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was transported to Stafford Hospital for treatment. The driver of the second tractor-trailer was not injured. All southbound lanes of I-95 were blocked for approximately 1 hour due to debris and fluid spill. Traffic was able to get by on the left shoulder.

Residents in blue states pay more for electricity than in red states: Study

“The report from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), provides a breakdown of energy prices throughout the United States while demonstrating the relationship between big government policies and high energy costs.”

The report comes after Prince William County adopted a sustainability master plan to reduce the effects of climate change by 2025. According to the plan, by 2023, Prince William County will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 50 percent and switch to 100 percent renewable electricity in Prince William County Government operations.

National Weather Service: “Light precipitation is expected this afternoon, especially for those along and east of I-95. High temperatures get into the mid 40s to low 50s. Brisk conditions are expected Monday.”

SUNDAY…Partly sunny. A slight chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs around 50. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Future of local news in U.S. is bleak; However, there is one bright spot

On the current trajectory, by the end of next year, the country will have lost a third of its newspapers since 2005. Discouragingly, the growth in alternative local news sources — digital and ethnic news outlets and public broadcasting — has not kept pace with what’s being lost.

As a result, most communities that lose a local newspaper do not get a replacement.

Aviation academy ‘looks promising’ for region’s public schools

Manassas School Board member Sara Brescia: “Manassas City, Manassas Park, Prince William County, and the Manassas Regional Airport are currently working out details to launch an Aviation Academy that will add new CTE pathways for students to pursue career training in aviation. By 2028, students will be able to study Flight Operations, Aviation Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering, with junior and senior year coursework taking place at the Manassas Regional Airport itself.”

“Given the staffing shortages in aviation, many local, state, and national aviation companies are eager to sponsor programs such as these, and so the Board has been optimistically–but cautiously–informed that the private grants and sponsorship landscape looks promising for this program.”

Bristow residents brace for vote on 9 data center ‘Devlin Technology Park’

Prince William Times: “Residential developer Stanley Martin is seeking the Prince William Board of County Supervisors’ approval to rezone 270 elevated acres near the intersection of Devlin and Linton Hall roads to allow for the new data center complex. The land is currently zoned for 516 new homes.”

“The project is one of two major data center rezonings the supervisors have scheduled for votes during the board’s “lame duck” session before the end of the year. A public hearing and possible vote on the Devlin Technology Park is set for Tuesday, Nov. 28. The board will take up the much larger nearly 1,800-acre Digital Gateway rezonings on Tuesday, Dec. 12.”

Dubbed “50 Ways in 50 Days” this initiative is described as an “idea-raiser” – designed to solicit feedback from residents of House District 22 regarding legislative priorities, issues facing our district and region, ways our office can engage the public and more.”

“Residents are encouraged to share any ideas they have to improve our community with the program hoping to gather a minimum of 50 good ideas.”
