“[Latarsha Gray, 37, of Fredericksburg] received a felony charge after causing a scene at a South Stafford Wawa,” the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reports.

“On December 17th at approximately 9:52 p.m. Deputy B.M. Taylor responded to Wawa, located at 9 South Gateway Drive, for a disturbance. Staff advised a female attempted to buy a tobacco product. When an employee requested her identification, she became upset and began screaming at the employee. Other employees attempted to de-escalate the situation, but when they were unsuccessful, they requested the suspect to leave. Instead, the suspect made threats on their life, assaulted an employee, and sprayed pepper spray on an employee before fleeing the area.”


Schools

“Representatives from the contractor working on the new Jennie Dean Elementary School recently presented updated plans to the Manassas City Public School Board, including space for keeping sports fields on the site, reports Emily Seymour at Insidenova.com. “The proposed design plan is a version of design “Concept E,” which would place the school on the northern part of the site and would displace the fields that currently exist.”


Prince William

Three people were displaced after a house fire in the Marumsco Acres section of Woodbridge.

“[Monday, December 18, 2023, at 9:44 a.m.], units were summoned to [14000 blk Fisher Ave.] for residents observing smoke and smelling something burning behind a dryer in the basement. Crews arrived and extinguished a small fire in the wall. The home sustained minimal damage. No injuries were reported. Three (3) adults were displaced. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was caused by an electrical failure,” reports the fire marshal.

The Virginia Department of Corrections announced the closure of four facilities, including one in Stafford County.

“Augusta Correctional Center, Sussex II State Prison, Haynesville Correctional Unit #17, and Stafford Community Corrections Alternative Program (CCAP) will be closed, effective July 1, 2024. These decisions were made to enhance employee, inmate, and probationer safety, to address longstanding staffing challenges, and in consideration of significant ongoing maintenance costs,” the State Department of Corrections announced in a press release.


Prince William

“Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter and County Attorney Michelle Robl recently received raises from the board of supervisors that make them the highest paid officials in those roles among Northern Virginia’s largest counties,” Shannon Clark at Prince William Times reports.
