Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) is pleased to announce significant improvements to transit service in Stafford County, with newly realigned and renamed bus routes launching Monday, January 5, 2026.


Prince William

A house fire displaced eight people Sunday evening in Woodbridge after an accidental stove activation sparked a blaze in the kitchen.

Fire crews were called to the 4200 block of Gustus Drive in Dale City about 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find an active fire in a single-family home’s kitchen. All five adults and three children inside had safely evacuated, thanks to working smoke detectors, according to a release from Prince William County Fire and Rescue.


Prince William

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Prince William County.

The crash happened at 7:20 a.m. on December 27, 2025, in the southbound lanes near the 150-mile marker. According to police, a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail. The impact caused the attached trailer to detach, and both the truck and trailer overturned.

Virginia Railway Express leadership reported improving performance metrics, a recovering ridership base, and preparations for upcoming service disruptions during the agency’s Operations Board meeting on December 19, 2025.

Stafford

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors formally recognized Supervisor Meg Bohmke on Tuesday with a proclamation detailing her more than a decade-long record of elected service, leadership, and policy work on behalf of the county.

The ceremonial presentation took place during the board’s Dec. 16, 2025, meeting and highlighted Bohmke’s roles at the county, regional, and state levels.


Fredericksburg

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity will receive $700,000 in state and federal funding to build six affordable homes in the Mayfield neighborhood of Fredericksburg. The money comes from Virginia’s Affordable and Special Needs Housing (ASNH) program, administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development.

Executive Director Jayne Johnson said the group is “elated” by the funding, which will support a project on Davies Street. “This funding will be key to helping us construct the planned 6-home development,” she said in a release.


Schools

Middle school students across the Fredericksburg area will soon have a new way to explore civic engagement through the launch of the Fredericksburg Regional Civics Bee.

Hosted by the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce in partnership with WorkForce NOW and the Oberle Academy, the event brings the national U.S. Chamber of Commerce competition to Planning District 16 — including Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, and the City of Fredericksburg.


Stafford

The Primrose School of Stafford at Embrey Mill officially opened on December 1, bringing a nationally recognized early education provider to the county for the first time. Located at 805 Wonder Road, the new facility serves children ages six weeks to five years and can accommodate up to 196 students.

This is the 19th Primrose School in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, and it’s designed to help meet the growing demand for quality early childhood education in Stafford and surrounding communities. The school has also created about 30 full- and part-time jobs.
