VDOT: PRINCE WILLIAM – Beginning Sunday night, April 28, weather permitting, a portion of the northbound and southbound I-95 general purpose lanes in Prince William County will have nighttime single- and double-lane closures until late fall for roadway joint repairs and paving, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

The lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursday nights, with Friday nights being used as backup dates in case of inclement weather:

The 1.2-mile improvement, located in the Gainesville Magisterial District, includes not only the widening of the roadway, but also a 16-foot-wide grass median, a 10-foot-wide shared-use path and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the south and north side of the road respectively.

Prince William County Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir thanked the staff and all involved in building and completing the $64-million project.  “Glad you brought it in on time and under budget … congratulations,” Weir said.

Closing the local lanes will affect local travelers’ ability to merge onto the northbound I-95 through lanes north of exit 133 in Stafford.

When the local lanes are closed, there will be no access to the through lanes of I-95 northbound for any traveler entering I-95 northbound from Route 3 in the City of Fredericksburg. All local lanes traffic will exit to Route 17 at exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton). The on-ramps to I-95 northbound from Route 17 northbound and southbound in Stafford will also be closed during these hours.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound: Exit 126 (Spotsylvania): Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closures on both I-95 northbound and southbound starting at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. between mile markers 125-126. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Construction of a new overpass of I-95 at Route 17 (Mills Drive).

Virginia Department of Transportation: Weekend parking can resume at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Park and Ride commuter lot on Staffordboro Boulevard, near the Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Mine Road intersection in Stafford County.

The lot will be open for all users on the weekends of April 20-21 and April 27-28.

Breaking News

A sinkhole formed on Route 610 Road in North Stafford.

VDOT crews are on the scene to repair the hole in the center of the westbound portion of the street at Novak Drive. Garrisonville is reduced to a single westbound and eastbound lane near Novak Drive to allow crews to investigate the cause of the sinkhole and make repairs.

I-95 Northbound: Exit 118 (Thornburg): Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures at mile marker 119, just north of exit 118 (Thornburg), for maintenance repairs to the bridge over the Po River.

Restriping of the Staffordboro Commuter lot in North Stafford is postponed to Saturday, March 30, due to the forecasted rainy weather on Saturday, March 23. The lot will be closed only for the weekend of March 30-31, weather permitting.

This work is part of a $900,000 maintenance project to resurface the Houser Drive Park and Ride lot in Spotsylvania County and refresh pavement markings at the Staffordboro Park and Ride lot in Stafford County.
