Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and an electric scooter that occurred Tuesday night in the Sudley area of Manassas.

Officers responded to the intersection of Portsmouth Road and Ashland Avenue at 8:58 p.m. on July 9, where a 2020 Dodge Journey collided with a Ninebot KickScooter. According to police, the Dodge was making a left turn onto Ashland Avenue when the e-scooter, traveling southbound on the sidewalk along Portsmouth Road, entered the intersection without stopping.

The operator of the scooter, identified as 40-year-old Eric Corrales of Manassas, was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to a hospital, where police were notified of his death the following day.

The driver of the Dodge and the adult passengers were not injured. Investigators determined the driver, 37-year-old Little David Arris Bowser Mason, also of Manassas, did not have a valid driver’s license. He was charged with driving without a valid operator’s license and released on a court summons. A court date is pending.

Police say the investigation is ongoing as they determine whether to file additional charges.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A decorated Prince William County police officer known for his work in DUI enforcement has been arrested on charges of stalking and unlawfully accessing law enforcement databases.

Godson Vondee, 42, was taken into custody on July 9 following a month-long investigation launched by the Prince William County Police Department. Investigators say Vondee accessed the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) without authorization on five occasions—once in 2023 and four times in 2024—to obtain personal information about a man known to a woman he was acquainted with. Each incident allegedly occurred while Vondee was on duty and without a criminal justice purpose.

Police say Vondee was also found to have been near the victim’s residence multiple times over a 15-month period.

“This is a betrayal of our oath of office and not reflective of the values and professionalism expected of the members of this agency,” said Police Chief Peter Newsham. “Such actions violate the trust within our community, and I expect the accused to be held accountable.”

Vondee has been placed on administrative leave and was stripped of his police authority when the allegations came to light. He is charged with one count of stalking and five counts of using a computer to obtain identifying information. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 19, 2025.

Vondee was previously celebrated by the department and the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) for his work in traffic enforcement. In both 2023 and 2024, he received WRAP’s Law Enforcement Award of Excellence for Impaired Driving Prevention and Enforcement. Social media posts from the department noted he had made more than 80 DUI arrests in 2024 alone and more than 40 the year prior.

The Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards and Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – The Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney has cleared officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man at a senior living facility earlier this year.

The independent criminal investigation into the April 26 shooting at Westminster at Lake Ridge has concluded, with no charges filed against the Prince William County Police officers involved, according to a June 27, 2025, statement from the department. The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), a multi-agency group of Northern Virginia law enforcement investigators, led the probe and presented its findings to Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Ashworth. After evaluating the evidence, Ashworth determined that no criminal charges would be pursued.

The case now enters a new phase: an internal administrative review by the police department’s Office of Professional Standards. Following that, the department’s Use of Deadly Force Review Board will decide whether the officers’ actions were justified and in line with departmental policy.

The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. on April 26 at the Westminster at Lake Ridge retirement community, located in the 12100 block of Clipper Drive. Police were called to the scene for a report of a man in crisis armed with a knife. Upon entering an apartment, officers encountered Joseph Anthony Cassell, who allegedly approached them with the weapon and ignored verbal commands.

Officers discharged their service weapons, striking Cassell. Police said that after the initial gunfire, Cassell attacked a 91-year-old woman—identified by police as a relative—prompting officers to fire again. Cassell died at the scene. The woman suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital. She is expected to recover.

No officers were injured during the encounter, which remained contained to the residence. The names of the officers involved have not been released.

The department has not announced a timeline for completing the administrative review.

DUMFRIES, Va. – A chaotic early morning on Monday, June 9, 2025, began with a violent crash on Interstate 95 and was followed just an hour later by a shooting at a nearby motel.

Shortly after midnight, a semi-truck barreled through a police traffic stop on southbound I-95 near Exit 150 at Quantico Marine Corps Base. The truck struck multiple Virginia State Police county police cruisers and injured several officers, one of whom suffered serious head and arm injuries. At least five cruisers were reportedly damaged, and at least two vehicles caught fire. Authorities shut down all southbound lanes as emergency crews responded.

Just after 1 a.m., while police were still working the crash scene, officers were called to the Red Carpet Inn on Dumfries Road for a reported shooting. They found a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach following a fight at the motel. Police reportedly found the victim in a conscious state in the motel lobby when they arrived.

Police say the two incidents are unrelated, but both remain under investigation.

No arrests have been announced in the shooting, and the cause of the crash involving the semi-truck is still unclear.

Prince William County Police say officers responded to the 14200 block of Smoketown Road at 5:13 p.m. on May 21, 2025. Initially, there were no signs of injuries in the area, but a search led officers to discover three adult males with gunshot wounds in a secluded wooded section behind the shopping complex.

Fire and rescue crews pronounced one victim, 29-year-old Tevon Dean Haskins of Woodbridge, dead at the scene. The two other victims, both 42 years old, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Campbell is charged with murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond. A court date is pending.
