Police remind pedestrians and drivers to watch out as spring temperatures warm up.

In Prince William County, four pedestrians were killed in 2020, the same number of pedestrians in 2019. In all the pedestrian-involved crashes, the pedestrian was determined to have violated a traffic law that was determined to be the primary cause of the collision, according to police.

(The Center Square) – Senate Bill 15, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Favola, D-Arlington, passed the House unanimously, 99-0, last week after passing the Senate with strong bipartisan support, 37-2. The legislation now heads to Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s desk.

The first units on the scene reported smoke coming from the front and rear of a single-story, single-family home. Crews entered the house found fire toward the rear of the home.

The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes. The two occupants of the residence were not home at the time of the fire.

The exit from Interstate 66 west to Route 28 north and Braddock Road/Walney Road will be relocated about one-half mile east of the old exit Friday, March 11.

The new exit location is just after the I-66 bridge over Stringfellow Road and will be the permanent location for this exit as part of the Transform 66 Outside of the Beltway Project.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a conditional use permit for a drive-through built into a new Dairy Queen restaurant.

[Updated March 7] Prince William County taxpayers are now investors in a new firm that produces materials the size of materials, devices, and structures at dimensions less than 100 nanometers.

On Tuesday, March 1, the Board of County Supervisors gave $50,000 to the George Mason University Nanofabrication facility. The $3 million, 2,350 square foot facility at the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research building on the university’s Sci-Tech Campus outside Manassas will produce materials for electronic devices, biological sensors, biomedical devices, and optoelectronics.

I attended the Prince William Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Awards ceremony on Thursday, February 24, where hundreds of people came to the Heritage Hunt Country Club in Gainesville — yes, hundreds — for the awards. It was the first in-person Chamber Awards ceremony since the pandemic began.

It was great to see so many old friends again and small business owners who survived and thrived during one of the most uncertain moments in our lifetimes. Congratulations to all of the winners.
