A Maryland man is behind bars after authorities chased a suspect through Stafford County.

On Friday, April 8, at 1:57 p.m., Stafford County Deputy G.P. McCaulley attempted to stop a speeder on U.S. 1 near the county courthouse. Ignoring the deputy, the suspect tried to elude him and traveled north on Route 1 where he sideswiped a Ford F-150 pickup and then crashed at Aquia Towne Center.

On Saturday, April 9, at 2:15 p.m., staff at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center discovered a “serious” gas leak outside the main facility, said jail superintendent Col. Peter Meletis.

While a roofing crew was working on the gutter system, a brick fell and severed the gas line connected to the Main Facility, said Meletis. Fire crews and Columbia Gas responded to the jail at 9300 Lee Avenue in Manassas.

There are two zip codes, 22405 and 22406, that USPS has attached to Fredericksburg’s location despite lying within Stafford County lines. This affects 25,713 residences and businesses across three magisterial: George Washington, Falmouth, and Hartwood.

George Washington District Supervisor Tom Coen is pushing for the change, citing a new tax on plastic shopping bags charged by neighboring Fredericksburg City on January 1, 2022. Businesses in Stafford County also began improperly charging the tax despite not being located within the city’s boundaries.

Just before 4 a.m. on Monday, April 11, Stafford County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched for a reported structure fire in the 200 block of Wood Landing Road in the White Oak area, about 10 miles from Fredericksburg.

First arriving units marked on scene approximately 10 minutes later and reported fire and smoke coming from the front and side of a one and a half story, log cabin style residence. The fire was marked under control in approximately 20 minutes.

This Easter, a church in Dumfries will open its doors and plans to serve a banquet fit for a king.

Potomac Valley Church will host its Great Banquet from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2022. The church will grill 1,000 pounds of meat and invites the community to the table to share in fellowship.
