Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham will be front and center during the Board of County Supervisors meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, to update elected leaders about crime in the county.

According to Newsham’s 2o22 executive summary, the violent crime rate jumped an eye-popping 70% from 2019 to 2022, which includes murder, manslaughter, rape, sodomy, and robbery (outlined on page 48 of the department’s 2021 report).

Fairfax

Police said a road rage incident escalated, leading to one of the drivers pulling a gun and firing rounds into traffic. No one was injured, but traffic was detoured around the scene on the incident date so police could collect the shells that fell onto the pavement.

On November 14, 2022, a judge dismissed charges for Robert Wilson Jr., 37, a teacher accused of having weapons inside his apartment, located at Covington Harper Elementary School near Dumfries.

A postal employee dropped a package addressed to the school at the neighbor’s house. The neighbor opened the package to find ammunition and took the package to the school.


Prince William

Authorities said there’s still no trace of a woman who went missing from Woodbridge in December 2022.

Amber Seats disappeared from a house in the 1200 block of Bell View Road, behind Marumsuco Plaza in Woodbridge on December 15. According to the Black and Missing Foundation, Inc., Seats had been talking with family in California in the days leading up to her disappearance.
