A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found shot dead in a vehicle on Cadet Court near Gainesville early on Thursday, May 23. Detectives believe the incident is not random and seek information from the public to aid the investigation. We’re working to get more information from the police.

On May 19, 2024, Douglas Ernesto Benavides, 43, was arrested in Woodbridge for brandishing a machete-style knife during a road rage incident while intoxicated, with a 2-year-old in the vehicle, police said. Benavides faces multiple charges, including felony child neglect, brandishing a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, DUI, and driving on a revoked license, and is being held without bond until his court date on July 18, 2024.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Stafford County deputies assisted Maryland homicide detectives in taking 22-year-old Raheem Adams into custody. Adams was wanted for first and second-degree murder in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He is being held without bond.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged Adams in connection with a fatal shooting at a car meet early Sunday morning, May 29, 2024. The victim was 26-year-old John Phipps of Waldorf. Community information was given to investigators, and Prince George’s County crime solvers played a role in the investigation.

Burglary While Armed | Strangulation *ARREST – On May 20, the suspect, identified as Prince Jakim Isaiah MALDONADO, who was sought in connection to the home invasion that was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the 13500 block of Castlebridge Ln. in Woodbridge (22193) on May 11, was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Maryland where he will remain until extradited to Prince William County.

On May 20, 2024, the Manassas City Police Department conducted Operation Old Town Slow Down in response to numerous pedestrian complaints. This operation resulted in multiple traffic violations and the arrest of one wanted subject. Later that day, officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a BB gun near Osbourn High School. They arrested the man and found he was lurking in Virginia while wanted by Maryland authorities. Police did not tell us his age.


Prince William

The investigation revealed the victim, a 32-year-old woman, and her 5-year-child were traveling in the above area when they were involved in a road rage incident with the driver of another vehicle, later identified as the accused.

During the encounter, the accused brandished a firearm at the victim’s vehicle before the parties separated. No shots were fired. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Edwin Dale SIMS, was arrested.

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: Two firearms were seized from a 19-year-old after an observant citizen noticed him fumbling a firearm in an intoxicated state.

On May 12th at 4:34 a.m. Sergeant J.D. Hurt and Deputy J.R. Suarez responded to Wawa, located at 275 Butler Road, for an intoxicated person. The caller advised the male, who was stumbling around, dropped his firearm on the floor while inside the business. They further advised the suspect attempted to buy tobacco without an ID. When staff refused to sell him the product, he asked to buy controlled substances from them.
