Manassas Park is working with a private contractor to make its streets safer.

The city retained Merchant McIntyre, a government consulting firm, to prepare a plan to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries in the city. The program could cost as much as $350,000, and city leaders hope to obtain much of that through federal funds.

Here’s the latest on the stabbing and three other incidents Prince William police reported on Monday, August 22.

Stabbing Investigation – On August 20 at 12:55AM, officers responded to Brixx Wood Fired Pizza located at 14900 Potomac Town Pl. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a stabbing. Upon arriving at the restaurant, officers located a 26-year-old man sitting outside with multiple stab wounds. Officers provided immediate first aid to the man until rescue personnel arrived and transported him to an area hospital where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The investigation revealed a group of individuals, including the injured man, were inside the restaurant when a verbal altercation escalated into a physical altercation. During the encounter, one of the members of the group stabbed the man before the parties separated. There is no suspect description at this time.

At 10:56 a.m., deputies went to Richmond Traffic Control at 1182 Ramoth Church Road, near the Stafford Regional Airport, for a report of shots fired.

Deputy R.A. Weatherholtz arrived first and learned an employee of the business was irate and engaged in a verbal dispute with another employee, police said.


Breaking News

Virginia State Police responded to a two-plane crash in Fauquier County. The crash occurred Saturday, August 20, at 9:05 a.m. along the 5100 block of Ritchie Road at a small airfield.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Stearman Aircraft was attempting to land when another Stearman Aircraft was trying to take off. The two aircraft collided, which caused one of them to overturn.

At 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 19, crews were dispatched to the 16300 block of Topsail Lane, just off Route 1, for a house fire.

Crews found heavy fire and smoke from the garage, said Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Chief Matt Smolsky. The fire extended into the home when, as fire crews began their attack.

Police said a Maryland man was driving under the influence when he struck a firefighter at the scene of a car crash on Interstate 95.

At 11:08 p.m. Thursday, August 18, firefighters were called to a crash on I-95 north near. Garrisonville Road. Police said the driver, who was not involved in the crash, sped into the back of a fire truck parked on the side of the highway.

Updated 9:45 a.m. — A 25-year-old man was shot and killed near Manassas on Friday, August 19.

At 8:28 p.m., officers went to the area of Sudley Manor Drive and Williamson Boulevard in Manassas to investigate a shooting. Police said the victim and another 25-year-old man were in the area when a third man approached them.
