Prince William County School Board Approves 2025-2026 Calendar

The Board approved Option A, which has students starting school on Aug. 19 and finishing on June 12. Teacher workdays in this option begin on Aug. 11 and all major holidays — including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Presidents Day and Memorial Day, to name a few — will be observed.

According to a PWCS news release on Nov. 20, the first day of school may be moved to Aug. 18 depending on the Board’s decision in January to revise its own policy to observe Eid al-Adha — one of the major holidays in Islam — which falls on May 26 and May 27 in 2026. PWCS already observes Eid al-Fitr, the other official Islamic holiday.

Prince William County Facility Receives Prestigious OBAT Designation, Enhancing Addiction Treatment Services:

The Prince William County Community Services’ Woodbridge facility has earned the Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) designation from the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services, a certification that elevates the clinic’s standards for addiction care. This recognition allows the facility to access additional Medicaid funding, increasing its capacity to tackle the region’s opioid epidemic with expanded services.

Mother and Son Charged With the Neglect and Death of a Disabled Relative

On November 22, two individuals were arrested in connection to a felony homicide investigation involving the neglect of a vulnerable adult, which began after a call to a home in Woodbridge earlier this year.

The victim, a 32-year-old man with cerebral palsy, was found severely neglected and later died from sepsis caused by the neglect, leading to charges of homicide and abuse against the two family members involved.

Public Input on Additional Federal Funding Ends Soon

According to county documents, the federal funding will go toward the demolition of the existing county-owned building at 14716 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge and construction of a new 30,000-square-foot homeless center. The new center will provide overnight, temporary and emergency sheltering as well as a multitude of services for up to 50 adults experiencing homelessness.

The county is requesting $2 million Community Project Funding (CPF) grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development. This funding is given through HUD’s Congressional Grants Division, which is responsible for administering congressionally directed spending grants.

Giorgio’s Family Restaurant is mourning the loss of its founder, Chef George Lampros, whose passion for food and community built the establishment into a local institution. Chef Lampros passed away this week, leaving behind a legacy of culinary excellence and community connection that has spanned more than two decades.

Chef Lampros, a proud Greek immigrant who fulfilled the American dream, opened Giorgio’s in 1999. Starting as a small 12-seat deli, the restaurant expanded over the years into a bustling 130-seat full-service establishment, complete with banquet and catering services. In 2008, Lampros further enhanced the dining experience by integrating WineStyles of Montclair, a wine shop and bar offering an extensive selection of wines from around the globe.
