Drivers traveling on Interstate 95 and local roads through Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg region this week should plan for overnight lane closures, ramp work, and rest area closures, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Police have charged a Woodbridge man with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving after a crash earlier this month that killed a 32-year-old woman.
According to a press release from the Prince William County Police Department, the crash happened on May 1 at the intersection of Dale Boulevard and Barksdale Street in Woodbridge. Investigators say the driver of a 2020 Honda Civic, identified as 23-year-old Luis Alejandro Anariba, was speeding more than 20 miles per hour over the posted 45 mph speed limit when the collision occurred.
MANASSAS, Va. – Leadership Prince William is launching a new Business Leadership Workshop Series designed to support small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs across the region.
According to a press release from the nonprofit organization, the new series is sponsored by Prince William County Economic Development and will offer workshops led by experienced professionals from a range of industries. The first session, titled “Leading Through Uncertain Times,” will be held on Thursday, May 14, with a morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon session from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Prince William Chamber of Commerce in Manassas.
The Green Cross is awarded by Hurst Jaws of Life, which aims to celebrate “the bravery shown by rescue teams worldwide,” according to the company’s website. Crews from Rescue Unit 522 and Trucks 504 and 511 were given the award.
The first incident occurred on Sudley Road and Lee Highway, where a box truck crashed into a tree. According to the department’s Facebook post, the driver was pinned from the waist down and impaled, and it took 40 minutes to rescue him.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A major transportation project in North Woodbridge is almost finished, promising smoother travel and better connections across the growing area.
Prince William County officials recently celebrated the near-completion of the Annapolis Way/North Woodbridge Mobility Improvements Project, a $9.5 million effort designed to improve vehicle, bike, and pedestrian access. Once fully open in the coming weeks, the project will allow drivers to travel the full length of Annapolis Way between Route 123 (Gordon Boulevard) and Route 1 (Richmond Highway), improving mobility and advancing long-term redevelopment goals.

Starting Thursday, June 5, 2025, the Long Family Farmers Market will operate weekly from 2 to 7 p.m. in the hospital’s main parking lot at 2300 Opitz Boulevard. The market will run every Thursday through September.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – After more than three decades of dedicated service, Major Kevin Hughart is retiring from the Prince William County Police Department, closing a chapter defined by integrity, mentorship, and community leadership. Stepping into his role is Major Jaime Pavol, a 22-year department veteran and county native who will serve as the new Assistant Chief of the Support Services Division.
Major Hughart began his public service in the U.S. Army, serving four years with the elite 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard.” In 1989, he joined the Prince William County Police Department and graduated from session #74 of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. He started his career in Eastern District Operations as a patrol officer, later becoming an auto theft detective.
Now in partnership once again, the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and the Prince William Area Agency on Aging are co-hosting the event as part of Older Americans Month. The goal: to build stronger connections between seniors and local businesses that serve their needs.
“We’ve doubled the number of vendors this year,” said Chamber CEO Bob Sweeney, “allowing us to highlight a diverse range of local businesses that offer valuable resources to support our aging community.”
DUMFRIES, Va. – Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood invited the community to join him for a workout event just days after the unexpected death of his younger brother, 37-year-old Darron Smith.
Smith passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 2, 2025. In a heartfelt message, Mayor Wood described his brother as someone born for greatness—sharing a birthday with Super Bowl legend Doug Williams—and a constant presence in his life. “We shared so many moments side by side—from family to food trucks to faith,” Wood wrote. “And now my heart is broken.”

In Prince William County, Veterans Memorial Park in Woodbridge welcomed more than 1,000 visitors on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for its annual Touch-a-Truck event. Children of all ages climbed inside fire engines, police cruisers, dump trucks, and more — even getting the chance to honk the horns and meet the men and women who operate them. Hosted as a free community event, it proved to be a hit once again, with organizers already planning next year’s return on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
