OmniRide Adding Saturday Service to Manassas/Manassas Park

OmniRide: “OmniRide will be adding Saturday Service to its list of mobility services starting August 26, 2023. Saturday service will include Local Manassas North (65N), Local Manassas to Manassas Park (67), OmniRide Connect microtransit in Manassas / Manassas Park, and OmniRide Access paratransit in Manassas / Manassas Park. It even includes the East-West Express (96) route that travels between Manassas and Woodbridge! Saturday timetables have been added to the new schedule brochures and they will be available from bus operators and online beginning Aug. 14.”

Prince William Times: “About 650 big yellow school buses hit Prince William County roads Monday morning as the new school year dawned for more than 91,000 students.”

“Superintendent LaTanya McDade began the morning outside Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, where the school’s cheerleaders and marching band performed for TV news cameras and arriving students.”

Prince William Police Department: “Armed Robbery – On August 20 at 5:42 p.m., officers responded to the Tobacco Store located at 13434 Richmond Highway in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed an unknown man brandished a firearm toward a store employee before demanding money from the registers. The suspect fled the store with unpaid tobacco products and an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported. Suspect Description: A black male wearing a black bucket-style hat and ski-style mask, a black Nike shirt, grey Nike sweatpants, and gray New Balance shoes.”

Prince William schools reject transgender policies from state, will not change regulations

Insidenova.com: “Prince William County Schools are rejecting the Virginia Department of Education’s new model policies on transgender students, saying its current policies are aligned with the Virginia Values Act’s prohibition on sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals’ decision in Grimm v. Gloucester County School Board, which mandated that students have access to school facilities corresponding with their gender identity.”

“With Thursday’s announcement, Prince William County Schools joined several other Northern Virginia school divisions in its rejection of the updated VDOE policies. School systems in Fairfax, Alexandria and Arlington have said they won’t be updating their division-level policies to conform with VDOE’s guidance.”

Moped operator killed near NOVA Woodbridge Campus

Prince William County Police: “Fatal Crash Investigation – On August 20 at 1:45 a.m., crash investigators responded to the intersection of Neabsco Mills Road and Smoke Court in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a crash. The investigation revealed the operator of a 2018 Yamaha FX 5 Moped was traveling southbound on Neabsco Mills Road approaching the stop bar with Smoke Court when it was rear-ended by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The collision caused the operator of the moped to be thrown from the moped onto the windshield of the Malibu before rolling to the ground. The operator, and only occupant of the moped, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene. Speed, alcohol, or drug use were not factors in the collision with the driver of the vehicle. The investigation continues. Identified: The operator of the 2018 Yamaha FX 5 Moped was identified as Junaid Mahmood QURESHI, 67, of Woodbridge.”

Fatal car crash in area of Graham Park Road

Prince William County Police Department: “Fatal Crash Investigation – On August 16 at 12:23 a.m., investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Graham Park Road and Woodland Drive in Triangle (22172) to investigate a single vehicle crash. The investigation revealed the driver of a 2009 Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on Graham Park Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle while in a turn in the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway, traveled through a residential lawn where it struck a telephone pole guidewire before continuing into a ravine where the vehicle then struck a concrete culvert and came to rest within a creek bed. The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. No additional property damage was reported. Identified: The driver of the 2009 Ford Fusion was identified as Kenneth JACOBS, 58, of Dumfries.

“During the encounter, the victim was shot, and the money in his possession was taken. The suspects immediately fled the scene in a separate vehicle after the altercation. The victim was located in his vehicle by responding officers and transported to an area hospital where he later died. Following the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the shooter, identified as Jordan Delaney SICKLES, and another associated involved in the incident, identified as Re’Kwon Nyqualin BARNETT. The accused, SICKLES, was arrested in the Manassas area by detectives the evening of August 14, while BARNETT turned himself into police a short time later.”

Prince William Police Department: “Armed Robbery – On August 13 at 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the area of Shields Way and Rodes Drive in Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed the victim, a 33-year-old man, was walking in the above area when he was approached from behind and knocked to the ground. The suspect then struck the victim multiple times and took his property. During the encounter, the suspect threatened the victim with a knife. The suspect took the victim’s watch and money before fleeing on foot. The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene by fire and rescue personnel. A police K-9 searched the area for the suspect who was not located. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans.”

“Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On August 13 at 11:57 a.m., officers responded to the Marywood Apartments located in the 10700 block of Crestwood Drive in Manassas (20109) to investigate a destruction of property. The investigation revealed at approximately 2:20 a.m., gunshots were heard in the above area. Later that morning, a resident of an apartment located damage to a bedroom ceiling. Further investigation revealed a round entered the apartment from the outside, traveled through a window and into the ceiling. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.”
