On Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 5:53 p.m., emergency response units were dispatched to attend to an injury incident near the shoreline of the Occoquan River, close to the Lake Jackson Dam.

Upon arrival, responders recognized the necessity for additional units equipped for high-angle rescues, given the challenging terrain required to safely extricate the injured individual from the riverbank.

Dumfries is celebrating its 275th anniversary this weekend, amid budgetary woes as it prepares for a three-day extravaganza to mark the occasion. Originally, the town council approved a $100,000 budget for the celebration, but it was revealed Tuesday that planners had overspent by $28,000.


Business owners in Prince William and Stafford counties impacted by the economic fallout from the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and the subsequent closure of the Port of Baltimore can now apply for Small Business Administration (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

The following people were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Yanyna Yaich of Woodbridge at the University of West Alabama and Nina Buckley of Montclair at George Mason University.


Authorities at Patriot High School in Brentsville were alerted to the presence of a weapon on school premises following a tip received through the See Something Say Something App.

The School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified on May 7 at 10:24 a.m., indicating that a student had been in possession of a weapon the previous evening during an after-school function. The investigation revealed that the student was seen with metal knuckles, police said.


The graduates gave heartfelt speeches. In one, a program alum described reaching a low point in his post-military life: “I went from being a problem-solver to being the problem,” he said as he choked back tears.

Prince William County has rescinded permits granted to a developer to dump construction debris on what used to be the Belmont Bay subdivision’s golf course as work continues on an expansion to the waterfront community.


Well, saddle up, partner! Let me tell you what them transportation officials over at VDOT are plannin’ to do. They’re fixin’ to make some big changes to the way folks travel ’round here, all aimed at smoothin’ out the ride and makin’ things safer for every cowboy and cowgirl on the road.

First off, they’re plannin’ a major overhaul to make the journey smoother and safer for all. They’re gonna rip out that old northbound Route 123 loop ramp to southbound I-95 at Lake Ridge, which’s been causin’ more headaches than a whiskey hangover. In its place, they’re settin’ up a brand new signalized left-turn, so folks can merge onto the interstate without havin’ to speed up like they’re dodgin’ bullets.
