School may not even be out for the summer, but some in the community are already planning what children will need when they return to class in August.

The Prince William County Community Foundation (PWCCF) is gearing up for its fourth annual Back-to-School Community Event, anticipated to attract as many as 8,000 attendees, a significant increase from last year’s 6,000. This year’s event, scheduled for August 3, 2024, at Unity Reed High School near Manassas, will feature a substantial giveaway of over 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, up from 2,500 last year.

According to police reports, officers were called to the scene at 11:44 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault. The investigation revealed that the confrontation began as a verbal altercation during a sports activity, which quickly escalated. [Redacted], identified as the accused, grabbed the 17-year-old victim scratched his neck, and initially separated. However, the dispute continued, resulting in Tredinnick re-engaging and striking the victim multiple times in the face, police reports state. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, received treatment at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

[Redacted] was arrested on May 3 and is currently held on a secured bond of $3,000. His court date is pending. Mason’s mother, [Redacted], declined to comment on her son’s arrest.


The open house will highlight resources related to health, housing, workforce and job training, youth services, food security, recreation, education, the environment, and legal support. These resources represent the combined efforts of county government agencies, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, and charitable organizations.

In addition to learning about local services, attendees will have the chance to explore ways to get involved in community improvement efforts, including participation in the Community Safety Advisory Committee. This committee plays a vital role in shaping community safety initiatives by engaging with residents and gathering their insights on safety and well-being.


“What we found was really disturbing,” said Acting Director Kevin D. Walsh in a December 2023 news conference releasing the final report. The investigation found the training sessions, organized by the New Jersey-based company Street Cop, not only promoted unconstitutional policing tactics, like extending police stops to develop probable cause but also fostered an environment where police officers glorified violence against civilians, discriminated against women and minorities, and a disregarded citizens’ civil liberties like searching vehicles without probable cause.

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:41 a.m., the Prince William Fire and Rescue Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 13000 block of Dominique Estates Lane, located in Haymarket. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy flames engulfing a single-family home. Fortunately, none of the occupants were present at the time of the incident.

The intensity of the blaze necessitated extensive firefighting efforts, compounded by the absence of nearby fire hydrants. As a result, the home suffered significant damage, rendering it unsafe for habitation. Two adults and three children have been displaced as a consequence.


“My Board colleagues and I unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, raising the “Data Center Tax” rate from $2.15 to $3.70 (the current maximum allowable threshold) and lowering the real property tax rate from $0.966 to $0.920. This shifts more of the tax burden onto some of the world’s wealthiest corporations while advancing community priorities through investments in key areas such as public safety, social services, sustainability, parks, and multi-modal transportation.

Prince William County Police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on April 15, 2024, near Yates Ford and Evans Ford roads near Manassas. The driver, identified as Jason Carter Lambeth, 46, of 6207 Sierra Ct near Manassas, was taken into custody on May 3.

According to authorities, the investigation revealed that Lambeth was operating a 1993 Buick Roadmaster at the time of the collision. Allegedly under the influence, Lambeth failed to yield the right-of-way to a Dodge Ram pickup as the vehicles entered the intersection, resulting in a tragic collision.


The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Dale City and Mullen Elementary Schools as 2024 Green Ribbon Schools, making them the only two schools in Virginia to receive the honor.

Virginia Department of Transportation: The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a hybrid public information meeting Thursday, May 2 on planned innovative intersection improvements along Route 28 (Centreville Road) between Manassas Drive (Route 213) and Spruce Street based on recommendations from the Centreville Road (Route 28) STARS Study. The project aims to improve safety, operations, and pedestrian accessibility and mobility.

The Route 28 intersections at Maplewood Drive and Browns Lane will be converted to restricted crossing U-turns (RCUTs) and a median U-turn (MUT) will be constructed between Birch Street and Spruce Street.
