Manassas Park opens warming centers due to frigid temps

Manassas Park City Government:“Due to frigid temperatures, the City has opened its Warming Centers: Police Station- Open 24/7 City Hall- Open Tuesday-Friday 8:30 am-9 pm. Manassas Park Community Center- Open Tuesday-Friday, 8 am-9 pm. Remember if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Bring your pets inside.”

National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington forecast: “Tonight: Snow, mainly before 4am. Low around 27. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Shooting victim found at Digges Road

One person was found suffering a gunshot wound at Digges Road near the intersection of Bruton Parish Court, near the Canterbury Village shopping plaza in Manassas, on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024.

It’s unclear if the victim was found lying on a street or inside a home. Police have released a few details on the case and aren’t expected to release the report until tomorrow, Jan. 16, 2024.

Deputies stop Ohio man after 85 mph pursuit on Garrisonville Road

Stafford sheriff’s office: “An Ohio man who thought he could outrun the police in North Stafford last night ended up just as disappointed as Dallas Cowboys fans this morning. On January 14th at 10:32 p.m. Deputy J.W. Ahern attempted to stop a Toyota Sequoia on westbound Garrisonville Road near Eustace Road for not having any rear lights. Instead of stopping for the minor traffic violation, the driver conducted a U-turn and accelerated eastbound on Garrisonville Road, initiating a pursuit.”

“The suspect sped up to 85 mph before turning left onto Center Street and then right onto Barrett Heights Road. Deputy Ahern provided updates to other deputies in the area as the suspect sped up to nearly 80 mph and turned right onto Onville Road toward Garrisonville Road.”

Police recover dog shot with projectile

From Prince William police:

“Animal Cruelty– On Satruday, January 13 at 8:30AM, officers responded to the 1500 block of Cherry Hill Rd. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a dog that was located with an injury consistent with being struck with a projectile. A resident located the dog suffering from the injury in the area and contacted police. The dog, an American Bully, 1-3 years on age, red/tan and white in color, was transported to an emergency veterinarian.”

VRE budget approved; Saturday service, fare increase

Virginia Railway Express: “The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) fiscal year (FY) 2025 budget received final approval Thursday evening, as the second of its two parent commissions voted to adopt the budget and accompanying six-year capital improvement program (CIP).”

“VRE’s FY 2025 operating budget totals $119.9 million, which includes operations, maintenance, and existing debt service. This is an increase of $11.0 million or 10 percent over the FY 2024 operating budget. The budget includes increases to fares of 5 percent and jurisdictional contributions of 14 percent. Both take effect July 1. VRE’s last broad-based fare increase was 3 percent in FY 2020.”

OmniRide holds ‘Extended Season of Giving Food Drive’

OmniRide: “OmniRide will hold an Extended Season of Giving Food Drive January 16 – January 19 in an effort to be a good partner in service to the community. In addition to accepting non-perishable donations on the buses, the organization will be accepting non-perishables in-person at several local government locations, and monetary donations online at the organization’s website.”

“The food drive will help to replenish shelves at local food pantries – one on each side of Prince William County. ACTS is on the east end of the county in Dumfries, and in addition to providing food assistance, offers utility assistance, programs to address domestic and sexual abuse, suicide prevention, and more. SERVE is in Manassas and provides food, shelter, utility assistance, services in foster care and adoption, health and dental services, mental health services, and more.”

Crash wasn’t ‘all good’ as reported; Teens charged

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “Two Stafford teenagers are lucky to be alive after a serious DUI crash Thursday morning.”

“On January 10th at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sergeant M.E. Gordon, Deputy D.S. Jett, and Deputy M.A. Holub responded to the area of Plantation Drive and Newcastle Place for an auto accident. Communication Officers received a crash notification before a female called in advising everything was “all good” and the crash was minor. When deputies arrived, they discovered just the opposite, a vehicle was overturned in a ditch. Luckily, all occupants were able to exit the vehicle with only minor injuries.”
