The second Manassas Bee Festival will be held on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Liberia House and Grounds at 8601 Portner Avenue in Manassas.

Speakers at the event will give presentations about planting native plants, responsible gardening, pollinators, the honey bees, and more. City Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis and the city’s Beautification Committee are organizing the event.


The Workhouse Arts Center has announced that its annual fireworks celebration is returning on July 2, 2022.

This year’s event will include a special performance by the renowned musical performer Mark G. Meadows who will celebrate the music of Stevie Wonder in a musical performance entitled A Night of Wonder. The concert will occur before the fireworks display and will present classic Stevie Wonder songs like “Sir Duke,” “For Once in my Life,” “Superstition,” and more.


Proceeds from the show went to benefit Empowerhouse, a local non-profit dedicated to the cause of stopping domestic violence.

Clothing and accessories from local Fredericksburg stores and boutiques along with donated raffle prizes helped to raise over $2500.00 for Empowerhouse. Raffles prizes included three hand-stitched leather bags donated from the Whelan Collection.


The Workhouse Arts Foundation, Inc. is holding a special opening reception for its Kissed by a Muse exhibit.

The exhibit will feature artwork by Virginia-based painter John Hartt and mixed-media artist Cheryl Neway which celebrates the main themes and draws inspiration from Xanadu (based on the Universal film, music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar). The works will include contemporary costuming, fanciful paintings of enigmatic characters, and bright discothèque colors.


A new 819-acre community in North Stafford called the Cascades at Embrey Mill has opened and is looking for residents. The 55+ community features townhomes and elevator flats from builders Miller & Smith and Drees Homes.

Miller & Smith has built a two-level townhome with 2,028 to 2,756 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, and an optional walkout basement for storage. Miller & Smith is building 78 units now selling with prices starting at $469,990.


Water’s End Brewery received a $5,000 grant for its Virginia Brews and Views program.

Water’s End Brewery partnered with the Town of Occoquan and Fredericksburg Main Street Inc. to supply $5,000 in matching funds for the project. Virginia Brews and Views encourages tourism in towns and parks,  inviting visitors and residents to tour before stopping for a pint of locally-brewed beer.


Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center awarded grants of more than $375,000 to programs, foundations, and groups within the community.

In all, 10 organizations focusing on the health and wellness of area residents were honored.


The Open Space Art Gallery is now open in a space once occupied by South Moon Under, at 15000 Potomac Town Center Place near Wegmans. The Prince William Arts Council, in conjunction with the Prince William Art Society, is maintaining the space.

“Stonebridge and JBG Smith [owners of Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center] were happy to have Prince William County Arts Council utilize the space,” spokeswoman Anastasia Pordorski told Potomac Local News. “It had been sitting vacant since the prior tenant vacated in early 2020.”
