Stafford Hospital Foundation says Transurban, operator of the Interstate 495, 95, and 395 E-ZPass Express Lanes will be the Sunshine Title Sponsor of this year’s Spring Fever 5K race.

The race will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, on the campus of Stafford Hospital, 101 Hospital Center Boulevard in Stafford, and is part of the Coldwell Banker Elite Grand Prix, a series of nine races that take place in our region, and the Stafford Race Series, a set of five races to promote community engagement and wellness activities in the county.


The National Museum of the Marine Corps Fifth Annual Marine Corps Student Art Competition opens March 1, 2023, to all U.S. students in grades K-12. This year’s theme is “Leatherneck Legends.”

Student artists are asked to create a piece of 2D art inspired by the life, stories, and/or achievements of an individual Marine or “Leatherneck.” Suggestions include: a Marine from history (past or present), a Marine the student knows personally, Wounded Warrior Marines, Combat Veteran/Veteran Marines, or any United States Marine that the student artist believes is deserving of the “legend” title.


February 18 is National Battery Day — A day be aware of how to properly dispose of the power sources.

Properly disposing of batteries not only prevents pollution, but recycling also saves metals and minerals that can be used in new products. Proper battery preparation for recycling is also essential to prevent fires while in transit since batteries rubbing together create the risk of sparks, fires, and explosions.


The REELZ TV network ordered 90 new episodes of On Patrol: Live, extending the run of the police-focused documentary series through January 2024.

Regionally, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office was featured on the show in December 2022. The show’s producers Producers call police agencies across the country, in rural, urban, and suburban areas, seeking departments to be featured on the show.


During the past few weeks, families, students, Girl Scout troops, and more created handwritten messages for local Veterans and sent more than 1,000 valentines to Spanberger’s office for the event.

“The respect and appreciation that Virginians hold for our neighbors who have answered the call to serve is made clear in every line and picture within these thoughtful cards,” said Spanberger in a submitted press release. “Yesterday, I was honored to meet some of these brave men and women and share my own gratitude for their service and sacrifice, as well as leave the kind words of many of their neighbors for others to receive.


During the grand opening, the sheriff’s office and Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department members participated in a Hoagies for Heroes competition.

While the Sheriff’s Office won the gold, Wawa awarded both teams won $1,000 to donate to their charity of choice.


On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the Rappahannock Hunt Club will host its Annual Point-to-Point Race in Boston, VA. The races will take place at The Hill, at 13257 Durantes Curve, Boston, Va., just off Route 522.

This steeplechase event has been arranged by the Rappahannock Hunt Club for over 70 years and will feature eight races over timber and on the flat.
