The Manassas Regional Airport is tearing down old airport hangars to make way for a $5 million street relocation project.

The hangars were occupied by Dulles Aviation, a flight school, for almost 40 years. Two large corporate hangars on the northwest side have been demolished for a road and drainage to be built. Before the Dulles Aviation FBO occupied these hangars, the Fairfax police helicopter division inhabited the main hangar for almost three years while their facility was being rebuilt, explained Jolene Berry, the airport’s assistant director.

The relocation project is funded using bi-partisan infrastructure law, or BIL funding. Berry explained that the airport plans to front the project cost and get reimbursed by the FAA over five years.

Nathan and Ethan Morlu

Two Woodbridge natives, Ethan, and Nathan Morlu, are first-year mechanical engineering students at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

They are 2022 graduates of Woodbridge Senior High School. The twins and eleven other students from 10 states received life-changing news during a visit to the Chick-fil-A Support Center in Georgia.

They thought they were attending the final round of interviews for the scholarship, but little did they know that a very special surprise – and a $25,000 check – was waiting for each of them. This scholarship’s first class of recipients were selected for their history of service in their communities, leadership, and academic drive.

Ethan and Nathan have demonstrated their character and commitment to service by attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. They have spent countless hours mentoring younger scouts in Woodbridge BSA Troop 1369 while holding various consistently overlapping leadership positions.

Now, they serve as Assistant Scoutmasters when they are home for breaks from college, helping younger scouts with service projects and skill-building. Ethan and Nathan also have a history of volunteering with Occoquan VFW Post 7916, environmental groups like Friends of the Occoquan, and tutoring with the Viking Learning Center at WSHS and Immanuel Anglican Church in Woodbridge.

This winter, they both had active volunteer leadership roles in organizing the WSHS Battle at the Bridge, a 51-team, 800-person wrestling tournament. As they are acclimating to college life, Nathan is in the process of founding a Wrestling Club at Georgia Tech with Ethan’s support.

One of the goals of this club is to provide opportunities for mentorship and youth outreach in the Atlanta community. Attending Georgia Tech has allowed Ethan and Nathan to further explore their interests in using engineering to advance society.

Ethan wants to be an engineer to help improve the lives of the elderly and those with disabilities. Nathan wants to use his engineering degree to help solve relevant world problems.

The Chick-Fil-A Community Scholarship aims to help the brothers get closer to the goal of earning their mechanical engineering degrees without the burden of student loan debt. The funding will also enable them to dedicate more time to activities that support their educational goals.

In addition, Community Scholars are invited to participate in the Chick-fil-A Scholars Program, an optional one-year engagement that includes mentoring and leadership development alongside the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Scholars and Eddie White Servant Leadership Award Recipient.

The people who help provide clean drinking water to Prince William County residents will teach children about the importance of clean water.

H2Go Kids is a free virtual educational program the Service Authority offers to public, private, and homeschooled students in Prince William County. Classroom presentations are delivered via Zoom by the Community Outreach staff or pre-recorded videos that teachers can share with students.

Educational content and activities are also provided at one or two STEAM events each month during the school year. The program is specially designed to connect with the Virginia Science Standards of Learning (SOL) and the local Prince William County water systems.

Lessons are centered around SOL topics for Kindergarten through Grade 6; the program is willing to adapt to work with middle and high school students. The Service Authority hosts the annual Water Art Invitational, where any county high school student can submit artwork depicting the year’s theme.

Winning students and teachers earn cash prizes, and their artwork is displayed in Service Authority facilities. They also participate in the Prince William-Manassas Regional Science and Engineering Fair to evaluate and reward exemplary water and wastewater-related projects through their Service Authority Organizational Awards.

The program includes several educational models and visual stories that simulate water-related topics, including the drinking and wastewater treatment systems, how pollution can enter and affect a waterway, and how our personal actions and water use can impact the environment. Lessons are visually interesting and interactive, and questions are asked throughout presentations to make sure the kids feel involved. Read More

With just four days until the show, almost 275 of the 1,000 available tickets have been sold for STEPVA’s spring musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” STEPVA is a local 501(c)3 non-profit designed to “empower people with disabilities through creative expression and sensory exploration.”

This year’s performance is the third year the organization has staged a spring musical and the second year that the cast–more than 30– has worked to master the content of a licensed musical. As in years past, STEP VA is making necessary adaptations for the performers, each of whom has a disability, but only as those needs arise.

“I wanted to give them as close to a Broadway experience as possible,” Sarah Garner, program coordinator, explained last year when the organization was preparing for Disney’s The Lion King, Kid.

“When we started, we went in fully committed to the whole experience and we adapt to the actors’ needs as we go.” Riding the success of last year’s show, more participants wanted to be part of the show this year.

Some cast and crew members now have three years of experience under their belt and STEP VA’s executive director Jan Monroe has seen firsthand the change in dynamics as this year’s spring musical takes shape. “This expanded cast number has provided an opportunity for cast members to take on mentoring and leadership roles.

Many seasoned cast members have been observed assisting newer ones that may be somewhat unsure,” she explained. STEPVA will perform “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on Saturday, April 15 at 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 16 at 3 p.m., both at Courtland High School, 6701 Smith Station Road , Spotsylvania, VA 22553.

Tickets are $15; children 5 and younger are free. If you are looking to purchase tickets visit stepva.networkforgood.com. For more information, visit stepva.org
