Good Morning – The Community Feeding Taskforce Food Hotline has an urgent need for Spanish speaking volunteers who can assist staff with answering calls to the Hotline during the COVID-19 pandemic. Duties include answering calls from those in need of food, redirecting callers to a food pantry closest to where they live and arranging home deliveries for shut-ins. Training is provided; however, volunteers will work from home and must have their own computer and Internet access. Bilingual skills in Spanish required.

Politics

This November will be one unlike any other. Several localities in Virginia are encouraging the electorate to vote by mail to make sure the spread of the coronavirus does not infect voters or the democratic process.

In Manassas, voters will have the option via postcard to select whether or not they can apply for a ballot this November.  Voters will be able to cast absentee ballots starting on Sept. 19, 45 days before the election.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors today voted unanimously to widen a nearly four-mile stretch of Route 28 between Liberia Avenue in Manassas and the Fairfax County line. It’s expected to cost at least $400 million — about $100 million more than a bypass that had been considered until today.

Ralph Northam — should be most responsible for providing options to parents on reopening schools.

And, as many school systems plan to return to 100% virtual learning in the fall, similar to what students experienced following the coronavirus lockdown in March, 44% of those polled disapprove of their local school system’s plans, while 30% strongly disapprove.
