Heat Advisory Wednesday, Storms Thursday, and Cooler Weather Ahead

A stretch of dangerous heat will grip the region Wednesday before strong storms move in on Thursday and usher in cooler weather for the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday for much of the D.C. metro area, including northern and central Virginia and parts of Maryland. Heat index values are expected to reach between 105 and 109 degrees, making it potentially hazardous for those spending extended time outdoors. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives.

Fatal Crash at Ashton and Godwin in Manassas Claims One Life

A 72-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Manassas. Police say the collision occurred at the intersection of Ashton Avenue and Godwin Drive just after 6 p.m.

Two people from one vehicle were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle—identified as Earline Steward—died at the scene. The crash involved a grey Kia Forte and a white Ford F550.

Obituary: Arthur Alvin “Dale” Anderson

Arthur Alvin “Dale” Anderson of Haymarket, VA passed away on July 28, 2025. He lived a dignified life of hard work and service for others. He taught math for 37 years in Prince William County Schools (mostly Woodbridge Middle School), and tutored all of his children’s friends and neighbor kids for 37 years as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Chval Anderson and Gladys Byrl Holmes Anderson. Art is survived by his oldest son, Michael Arthur Anderson and his family, Nancy Anderson, Kevin and Trevina Anderson, their children (Art’s great grandchildren) Thomas LIncoln Anderson (3) and Emma Renee Anderson (16 months). Art is also survived by his oldest daughter, Marjorie Marion McClain, her husband, Terry McClain, and their children Nicholas McClain and SaraAnn McClain; he is also survived by his youngest daughter, Kristi Beckman, her husband, Chris Beckman, and their children Abby, Alex, and Aiden Beckman.

Two inmate assaults were reported July 28 at Rappahannock Regional Jail—one involving a single victim, the other involving two. All aggressors were charged accordingly.

A man on White Pine Circle was arrested for public intoxication, destruction of property, and simple assault after deputies found him drunk and angry over a bike mishap, while another man was arrested for public intoxication on Lookout Way after being found passed out with a wine cooler in hand.

Malicious Wounding Arrest, Burglary, Vandalism, and Assaults

A Nokesville man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a 70-year-old coworker in an unprovoked assault that led to a malicious wounding charge. The incident headlines today’s Prince William police report, which also includes arrests for elder abuse, vandalism at a school, and a burglary in Woodbridge.

Police say Terry Warner Johnson, 59, of Alexandria, was arrested July 18 by Suffolk police for allegedly striking the elderly victim in the face multiple times on July 14 in the 14300 block of Glenkirk Road. The victim was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

DUMFRIES, Va. – The Dumfries Town Council reversed course and voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit (CUP) that will allow a local business to host cultural, entertainment, and community events on its property along Washington Street.

The business, Outdoor Showplace, is located at 17715 Washington Street, directly across from Dumfries Town Hall. Known as the region’s largest fully custom landscape showroom, the two-acre property displays outdoor kitchens, fire pits, patios, water features, and more—giving customers the chance to walk through and experience sample backyard designs in a real-life setting.

Crash in Nokesville Claims Life of 22-Year-Old Driver

NOKESVILLE, Va. – A 22-year-old woman from Springfield died Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in Nokesville, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

The crash happened at 12:53 p.m. on July 28 at the intersection of Owls Nest Road and Vint Hill Road. Investigators say Cassandra Ann Signet was driving a 2016 Jeep Renegade and attempted to turn left onto westbound Vint Hill Road when her vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming 2019 International HV507 truck.
