When two people became trapped underneath a tractor-trailer, it was a race against time to get them out.

On October 10, 2021, Emergency crews from Prince William and Fairfax counties were called to a crash on Interstate 66 near Manassas. An SUV rear-ended a semi-tractor-trailer, creating a scenario referred to as an “underride.”

The Quantico 12K will be in an in-person event on August 20 at Quantico Marine Corps Base. The seven-mile course takes runners through the grounds of Officer Candidates School, offering unique access to the area where future Marine leaders train.

“Each one of our MCM Event Series runs showcase various settings of Marine Corps Base Quantico, while also furthering our mission of promoting physical fitness,” said Rick Nealis, director of Marine Corps Marathon Organization. “In this case, the Quantico 12K gives runners a behind-the-scenes look at where the journey begins for our Marine Officers.”

Republicans in Virginia’s new 10th Congressional District will hold a party canvass on Saturday, May 21, to determine a candidate to attempt to unseat Democrat Jennifer Wexton, whose held the seat since 2019.

According to the Federal Elections Commission, five Republican candidates are running, including Prince William County Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson and Manassas City Council member Theresa Coates Ellis.

Police have a suspect in custody following the hit-and-run crash we told you that occurred last weekend in Woodbridge.

On Monday, March 14, the suspect sought in connection to the hit-and-run crash in the 2000 block of Cumberland Drive in Woodbridge one day earlier was arrested.

This budget increase will also fund higher wages for certified/instructional and classified employee pay scales. The school division says that county teacher salaries will be more competitive as a result of these adjustments. 

The School Board-approved budget hinges on estimated funding from the state — Richmond lawmakers will reconvene soon in hopes to hammer out a new budget. The school budget also assumes the Prince William County Board of Supervisors will approve its proposed $1.5 billion budget, which includes a new meals tax customers will pay at eateries across the county, in addition to sales tax.

The Northern Neck Vegetable Growers Association will provide $10,000 in scholarship funds this year. Students from Stafford County are encouraged to apply.

The association will offer five scholarships totaling $10,000 to deserving area youth studying agriculture. Eligible applicants must live in one of the following counties: Caroline, Essex, Hanover, Gloucester, King George, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Westmoreland.

At the March 15, 2022, Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board adopted voted to create new election district boundaries, voting precincts, and polling locations.

Trucks using a popular Stafford County thoroughfare may soon have to find another way.

The Virginia Department of Transportation, at the request of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, is considering a through truck restriction on Route 1486 (Austin Ridge Drive) between Route 684 (Mine Road) and Route 630 (Courthouse Road).

For the second time since becoming county police chief in January 2021, Peter Newsham will answer the Prince William Committee of 100. The civic group meets periodically, and hosts discussions about community interest, including political forums.

“When we previously had Chief Newsham speak, he was very new to the job and largely spoke with reference to earlier periods of his career and his most immediate objectives in his new role. We have asked him to return to review his first year in Prince William County,” said Prince William Committee of 100 President Cynthia Chambliss.
