Two political heavy hitters will appear this week in Woodbridge.

Today, Texas Senator Ted Cruz will stump for Yesli Vega, who is running for the GOP nomination in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Cruz ran for president in 2016 and stumped during the trucker convoy protests that came to the region earlier this year.

The driver of a 2016 Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Old Bridge Road, just past Cape Cod Court, when the vehicle left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk where the vehicle then struck a pedestrian who was walking his dog.

The vehicle continued traveling before it struck a communications box and a power pole, causing the pole to snap and fall into the roadway. Officers and bystanders provided first aid to the pedestrian until rescue personnel arrived.

As part of the commemoration, figures who were part of the VRE’s past have been invited to share brief comments on how lessons learned in launching the commuter rail service can be applied to pandemic-related ridership recovery efforts.

There is also an expected announcement pertaining to VRE’s financial support of Transforming Rail in Virginia that will further document the support for the commonwealth’s commitment to expanding VRE service over the next decade. Transforming Rail in Virginia came as a result of an agreement between the commonwealth and CSX Transportation which seeks to improve rail transit in Virginia.

In desperate need of a win in the series finale in Myrtle Beach, the FredNats found a way to squeak out a nail-biting 4-3 over the Pelicans in 10 innings.

Jeremy De La Rosa drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, and then with the tying run on third base in the bottom of the 10th, J.T. Arruda made the play of the year for Fredericksburg, flipping over the wall next to the FredNat bullpen to catch a pop fly and end the game.

(The Center Square) – The number of teachers in the U.S. has increased from 2013 to 2020 while the number of students has decreased, according to data from the National Education Association, the nation’s largest public-school union.

While total enrollment has dropped 1.4% over those seven years, there has been a 2.3% increase in the number of public-school teachers.
