Third Victim Identified in Fatal Spotsylvania Shooting; Five Suspects Charged

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting stemmed from an attempted illegal gun sale and robbery.

Four suspects—two 16-year-olds, one 17-year-old, and 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson of Caroline County—have been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and unlawful assembly. One of the 16-year-old suspects, who had been hospitalized with a gunshot wound, has since been released and is now being held at the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

MANASSAS, Va. — The Manassas City School Board on Tuesday heard an update on the division’s plan to adopt a new primary mathematics curriculum resource, set to be implemented in the 2025-26 school year.

Dr. Ed Stevenson, director of instruction, and Deputy Superintendent Craig Gefeller presented the plan and explained how the state’s accelerated rollout of new math standards forced the division to revise its typical adoption process.

The event took place at 10 a.m. in Maury Park, located at the corner of William Street and Kenmore Avenue, adjacent to the James Monroe High School football field and just behind the Littles’ home. The park served as a fitting venue for honoring the couple whose tireless efforts have transformed green spaces throughout the city.

County Leaders Signal Support for Meals Tax Reduction in Prince William

Prince William County could soon see a significant shift in its meals tax policy, as several key members of the Board of County Supervisors support cutting the tax in half and eventually phasing it out.

Board Chair At-large Deshundra Jefferson told Potomac Local News she supports reducing the county’s meals tax from 4% to 2% in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which takes effect July 1, 2025. Jefferson also wants the Board to consider a plan to phase out the tax entirely over the next few years.

Stafford County Supervisors Approve Enon Road Solar Farm Proposal

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted 5-2 on April 1, 2025, to approve a conditional use permit (CUP) for the construction of a solar energy facility on a 36-acre parcel located at the southeast corner of Enon Road and Truslow Road in the Hartwood District.

The applicant, Enon Road Solar Farm and its representatives from Energy Systems and Applications (ESA), sought approval for two items: the CUP to operate a solar facility in the A-1 Agricultural zoning district, and authorization for the county to enter a decommissioning agreement.
