Fairfax County is temporarily putting crossing guards back at 11 high schools after a student was struck near South Lakes, Stafford officials are urging residents to tell the FCC whether Verizon’s plan to end traditional copper landlines would leave them without reliable phone service, and Manassas students have been invited to design the city’s official 2028 “I Voted!” sticker.
According to FFXnow, crossing guard services at 11 Fairfax County public high schools will be temporarily reinstated while county supervisors assess longer-term solutions for pedestrian safety. A Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson said Wednesday that police officers and crossing guards will provide traffic and crossing support at 11 high school locations that had previously been staffed. The move comes after the Board of Supervisors approved a May budget that eliminated funding for police crossing guards at high schools.

Police documents describe a Great Falls stabbing tied to affair screenshots, Prince William’s longest-serving firefighter retires after 49 years, and statewide election and energy decisions land as Labor Day weekend approaches.
According to Fox 5 DC, Fairfax County police documents say 19-year-old Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos killed 42-year-old Carmen Lizet Puch after she sent screenshots of their affair to his girlfriend. Puch was found stabbed near trails in Great Falls on Aug. 17; the two worked together at a restaurant and had been involved in an intimate relationship.
Prince William County police are looking for a man who jumped a counter at a Woodbridge CVS, threatened two employees with a box cutter and an aerosol can, and stole a lighter. Officers also released photos of a man they say exposed himself to a 15-year-old girl at a Dumfries Target.
The daily reports also include a Woodbridge brandishing arrest, a garage burglary in Woodbridge, a commercial burglary at a Bristow water facility, and Stafford cases involving a public intoxication arrest and a rental scam.
