The Falmouth Bridge, a critical connection between Fredericksburg and Stafford County over the Rappahannock River, is set for a major rehabilitation project. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has secured $86.2 million in funding for this endeavor. Construction is slated to begin in fiscal year 2029, with activities expected from summer 2028 through summer 2029, VDOT spokeswoman Kelly Hannon said.

Rome Washington, of South Carolina, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, DUI, reckless driving, and felony hit and run after causing a series of intentional crashes on Richmond Highway and leading police on a high-speed chase. He was taken into custody without injury after a PIT maneuver by Sgt. Hurt ended his rampage and is currently held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

A new roundabout was opened to the public on June 27 on Grant Avenue in Manassas as part of ongoing construction and streetscape improvements by the city.

In addition to the roundabout, according to a report released by the city, new medians were constructed from the intersection of Grant Avenue to Taney Road and retaining walls were built between Prince William and Liberty streets, but are not complete.


Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday, June 21, 2024, at 2:29 p.m. on Interstate 66 westbound at the 46-mile marker in Prince William County.

A disabled 2019 Hyundai Tucson had pulled off the interstate onto the right shoulder. A 2018 Isuzu NPR HD truck, traveling westbound on Interstate 66, departed the right side of the interstate and collided with the disabled Tucson. The Tucson struck the jersey wall and was pushed approximately 400 feet along the shoulder.


Effective July 1, 2024, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will update its fare structure for the first time in five years, alongside a new policy benefiting children. Passengers aged 18 and under will travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Adult fares will see a five percent increase. For example, travelers from Spotsylvania Station to Union Station in Washington, D.C., will pay $0.65 more for single-ride tickets and $18 more for monthly passes.

Transurban has announced the 95/395 Express Lanes will have a revised reversal schedule on Thursday, July 4, 2024 to accommodate travelers attending the Independence Day fireworks display.

The lanes will be open northbound all day until 7 p.m. when reversal begins. The Lanes are expected to open southbound by 8:30 p.m.


The crash involved a disabled vehicle that had stopped on the highway. According to initial reports, the stationary vehicle was struck by a second car traveling westbound. The force of the collision led to at least one fatality.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the scene was secured for an investigation and clean-up. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
