Twelve theme nights are set to occur at Virginia Credit Union Stadium every Saturday night during the FredNats season. There will also be the home to six jersey auctions, appearances from a celebrity, and some popular children’s characters.

The first Saturday of the season will be centered around celebrating the start of the 2023 season. The opening Weekend at Virginia Credit Union Stadium will see the FredNats in action for the first time in 2023.

The Stafford County Government is beginning work on a $990,000 stream restoration project in St. Clair Brooks Memorial Park, located at 80 Butler Road in Falmouth. It will begin near the pedestrian bridge below the overhead power lines and meanders south toward Pratt Park.

The project will prevent pollutants from reaching the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay by restoring an unnamed 1,500-foot tributary, decreasing erosion, and promoting natural habit, a press release states. The press release adds that the effort will reduce the amount of runoff, sediment, and pollutants and make the stream more sustainable.

The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter’s Delta DEARS coordinated a book drive to collect new books for two Title 1 Prince William County elementary schools.

The DEARS, as they are known, are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., who are aged 62 years or older. D.E.A.R.S is an acronym for Dedicated Energetic Active Respected Sorors.

The Fredericksburg Nationals announced Eric Bach as the new play-by-play voice of the FredNats.

Bach replaces Joey Zanaboni, who left for a position in Major League Soccer last month. Bach will call all 132 games on the FredNats Baseball Network and all home games on MiLB TV and the free Bally Sports App. He will also head up the team’s media relations efforts.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office gave me a tour of its facilities and a view of how each division creates one functioning department. 

Captain Ray Davis gave this tour. He was very kind in explaining the job from the ground up to the higher levels of admin.

The drainage issues, with no renovations, have been an even bigger issue during rainy seasons. As a result of a slit build-up in the mulch bed, the drainage water from the parking lot was unable to pass over the hump in the flower bed, said Prince William County spokeswoman Rachel Johnson.

This caused the dirt to slowly erode, and mulch began to build up along the side of the building. The county government’s fleet and facilities management also recognized that the drain boxes did not have header curbs allowing water to flow freely.

A rebuild of Hartwood Elementary School will take a backseat to constructing the 18th elementary school in Stafford County.

Stafford County’s Board of Supervisors voted to move the construction of Stafford County’s 18th elementary school to 2023 and delay rebuilding Hartwood Elementary School until 2027.

Stafford County Nutrition Services will work in collaboration with Giant Foods to supply families with groceries in anticipation of spring break. Distribution will take place at Colonial Forge High School from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 10. While all families are welcome to this event, supplies are limited.

Stafford County Public Schools will host the Second Annual Community Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Colonial Forge High School at 550 Courthouse Road, Stafford, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event is open to the community, students, staff, and families.
