Johnathan Ladson of Dale City, Va., age 31, finished first of 520 runners in this morning’s Turkey Trot 10K and Mile aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, one final calorie-burning event before Thanksgiving.

Ladson crossed the finish line first with a time of 33:58, completing his dominance in 2022. Ladson placed at least third and above in every Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) event this year, finishing second in the Marine Corps 17.75K in March, first in the Devil Dog Double in May, first in June’s Belleau Wood 8K as well as first in August’s Quantico 12K, third in the MCM50K in October and now today as the Turkey Trot 10K Champion.

The Stafford County Department of Capital Projects will host a location and design public hearing about the Staffordboro Boulevard Sidewalk Project. The meeting will take place on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Anne E. Moncure Elementary School, 120 Juggins Road; Stafford, VA 22556.

Citizens are invited to see the proposed improvements for the section of Staffordboro Boulevard that extends from Juggins Road Connector to Pike Place (SR-2278) in Stafford County. Specific improvements include constructing a five-foot sidewalk, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramps, marked crosswalks, drainage improvements and road resurfacing.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is collecting new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves for underprivileged children. In addition, NOVEC HELPS, a group of employee volunteers, is collecting new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children in homeless shelters.

“We’re asking Co-op customers and other residents to please donate toys and gifts for tots, tweens, and teens,” says Nan Musick, NOVEC HELPS board of directors chair. “We always collect a lot of toys for little ones, but older children and teenagers appreciate backpacks, board games, books, bath gift sets, hand-held electronics, and socks.”

The westbound direction of this same 13-mile section of express lanes opened on Saturday, November 19. Drivers should use caution when traveling on I-66, as traffic becomes acclimated to the new express lanes and ramps.

Now, the entire 22.5-mile 66 Express Lanes corridor from Route 29 in Gainesville to I-495 will be open with tolling and HOV-2+ rules in effect.

This week, OmniRide buses from Prince William and Stafford counties and Manassas will serve the Pentagon only.

Once there, riders may transfer to Metro to continue to their destinations. The change is temporary, lasts only through Wednesday, and comes during Thanksgiving week.
