Updated 9:45 a.m. — A 25-year-old man was shot and killed near Manassas on Friday, August 19.

At 8:28 p.m., officers went to the area of Sudley Manor Drive and Williamson Boulevard in Manassas to investigate a shooting. Police said the victim and another 25-year-old man were in the area when a third man approached them.

Drivers headed from the Tysons Corner area to Manassas must use a new exit ramp starting next week.

The first new exit ramp and bridge for the under-construction Interstate 66/495 interchange is scheduled to open ahead of schedule beginning on or about next Thursday, August 25, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A man who trespassed outside a McDonald’s hit a Prince William police officer, police said.

Police observed a man at the restaurant at 10730 Balls Ford Road near Manassas at 10:56 a.m. Wednesday, August 17. Officers approached him, determined he was trespassing at the business and tried to arrest him.

Prince William County State Senator Jeremy McPike (D-29) says the Washington Commanders have a lot to work out if it wants to bring a football stadium to Woodbridge.

McPike said the team has no plans to mitigate the traffic effects drivers on Interstate 95 would feel if a new stadium were to be built at the Horner Road Commuter Lot, the state’s largest, just off Prince William Parkway.

At 4:43 a.m., units were dispatched to the 13000 blk of Tanazari Way to find a kitchen fire extinguished by the building’s automatic sprinkler system. The apartment’s occupant was cooking food on the stove but fell asleep.

Smoke detectors activated and alerted the occupant. The occupant sustained a minor injury attempting to remove the food from the stove. No other injuries were reported.

Tonight, Thursday, August 18, it will be 90s night at the Prince William County Fair, and country music artist Tracy Byrd, known for songs like “10 Rounds with Jose Cuervo” and “Watermelon Crawl,” will perform live at the grandstand.

Scharpenberg’s removal came following a closed-session meeting on Tuesday, August 16, and comes after he pitched a proposal of an outer connector road bypassing Fredericksburg that would cut through a swath of the county.

Aquia District Supervisor Monica Gary threatened to remove Sharpenberg if he pursued the bypass proposal, which is not included in long-range transportation plans. Scharfenberg refused to step down, causing friction between him and the Stafford County Board of Supervisors.
