The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office captured a serial shoplifter after a brief pursuit in Stafford Marketplace.

On January 19 at 7:12 p.m., a Target in Stafford Marketplace staff reported shoplifting. Two sheriff’s deputies were in the area and found the suspect driving a black Mercedes SUV in the parking lot.

All Stafford County sheriff’s deputies will wear body cameras by the summer.

Sheriff David Decatur took questions about his department’s new body cameras, which will record interactions between law enforcement and residents. The system, developed by Axon and approved by the Stafford Board of County Supervisors just over a year ago, merges other cameras already used in the deputys’ cars and on taser weapons.

A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in Woodbridge on Monday, January 16.

At 8:50 p.m., police went to the 13900 block of Richmond Highway, near Todos Supermarket in the Maurumsco Plaza shopping center,  to find a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Fire and rescue personnel took the man to an area hospital where his injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

The crash occurred about 10:45 a.m. in Stafford County, at milepost 134, north of exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton), for a multi-vehicle crash involving a large truck.

Drivers south of the crash site are sitting in about five miles of congestion as of 11:50 a.m. We’ll post more about this crash when we have it.

A Stafford County 911 operator is credited for helping to deliver a baby over the phone.

At 2:26 a.m. today, Thursday, January 12, 2022, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said the child’s mother went into labor at her North Stafford home. The child’s father was also home, realized he didn’t have enough time to drive the mother to a hospital and dialed 911.
