The politics in the Potomac District are heating up as two Democrats vie for their party’s nomination for the Prince William Board of County Supervisors seat.

Incumbent Andrea Bailey, in office since January 202o, announced her bid for re-election in 2023. She was part of the class that flipped control of the board from Republicans to Democrats for the first time in county history and replaced the long-serving Maureen Caddigan, who retired in 2019.

A Dumfries-area man faces charges after a fight outside the Potomac Shores neighborhood clubhouse.

On Sunday, December 10 at 10:45 p.m, officers responded to the Potomac Shores Recreational Center located at 1801 Potomac Shores Pkwy near Dumfries to investigate a fight. Upon arriving at the location, officers located a 59-year-old man, suffering from injuries to his face.

Prince William County detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau are continuing their efforts to identify and locate the suspect or suspects involved in the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man that occurred in the area of Morgan Court and Old Triangle Road in Dumfries on November 12 shortly after 5:30 a.m.

Police found the victim, Demetrious Levar Graham, 44, of Woodbridge, in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, after police responded to the area for multiple reports of shots being fired. Video surveillance captured the armed male suspect wearing no shirt with his face covered walking along the sidewalk. The suspect is then seen firing multiple rounds towards the man’s vehicle as it drove by.

Today, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) welcomed students from Dumfries Elementary School to his Capitol Hill office to kick off the holiday season with carols, milk and cookies, and decoration of the office Christmas tree. This year’s tree, a 12-foot Fraser fir, is from Mt. Rogers Tree Farm in Grayson County, Va.

The fifth-graders helped Sen. Warner decorate his tree with homemade ornaments before serenading members of his staff with classic carols such as “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

Prince William fire and rescue crews are investigating a building fire in Dumfries.

Crews were called to the 17000 block of Colonial Port Road where they found a fire at a large warehouse building at 2:13 a.m., Thursday, December 1.
