On August 26, 2025, the Stafford County School Board will vote to name High School 6, which is currently under construction and slated to open in the near future. The Board will also finalize the school’s mascot and colors at that time.

The two names under consideration are:


Two inmate assaults were reported July 28 at Rappahannock Regional Jail—one involving a single victim, the other involving two. All aggressors were charged accordingly.

A man on White Pine Circle was arrested for public intoxication, destruction of property, and simple assault after deputies found him drunk and angry over a bike mishap, while another man was arrested for public intoxication on Lookout Way after being found passed out with a wine cooler in hand.

STAFFORD, Va. – A 36-year-old man from Front Royal is still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a motorcycle crash on Garrisonville Road. The July 26 crash occurred near Furnace Road and is believed to have been caused by excessive speed. The Sheriff’s Office said multiple witnesses helped provide critical information at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers in the Fredericksburg region should prepare for overnight lane closures this week as road crews carry out maintenance and construction along major corridors in Stafford and Spotsylvania counties and the City of Fredericksburg.

On I-95, paving and bridge inspections will cause single or alternating lane closures overnight between Exit 118 (Thornburg) and Exit 148 (Quantico). Route 1 and Route 3 in both counties will see daytime and nighttime closures for pavement marking, utility work, and intersection improvements. Fredericksburg’s Route 1 at Fall Hill Avenue and Princess Anne Street will continue to experience intermittent lane closures as part of long-term construction projects.


AQUIA HARBOUR, Va. – Nearly 700 residents in Aquia Harbor are without electricity this evening as Dominion Energy reports a power outage affecting 697 customers.

According to Dominion’s outage tracker, the disruption is due to a “circuit out.” The utility company estimates that power will be restored between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. tonight.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Police are searching for a woman accused of leaving her 2-year-old son unattended outside a home on Dawson Beach Road. Officers responded to the home around 9:17 p.m. on July 23 after a child was found alone and in poor condition. Authorities say the boy’s mother, 37-year-old Alexandra Anna Granruth, had arranged for someone to look after the child earlier that afternoon but never returned.

When police tried to contact Granruth, she allegedly refused to come back. The child was not injured and was released to known parties. Warrants have been issued for Granruth, who is now wanted for felony child neglect.


STAFFORD, Va. – Eugene Loew is no longer employed as Stafford County’s Director of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism—just four months after he started the job.

According to records obtained by Potomac Local News through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, Loew was hired on March 10, 2025, at an annual salary of $175,011.20. His last day with the county was July 15, 2025.


STAFFORD, Va. – Stafford County’s primary fire boat is back in the water and ready to respond after a crash earlier this summer temporarily sidelined the vessel.

Potomac Local News has learned exclusively that the boat struck an underwater object on July 4 while members of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department were conducting routine training and patrol near the boat ramp at Widewater State Park.


The VRE Operations Board is expected to review the proposal in September 2025 as part of the draft FY2027 budget. The plan would trigger a public participation process in fall 2025 before any final vote.
