PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – Damien and Quadrell Sylvester have been named Prince William County’s 2025 Foster Parents of the Year, honored by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) for their outstanding commitment to children in care.

The Sylvesters, who currently care for a sibling group of three, have repeatedly stepped up, offering emergency, respite, and long-term placements, often on short notice. County officials say the family consistently provides nurturing and stability, even under challenging situations.

Heads Up, Drivers: Overnight Lane Closures Coming to Prince William Parkway

MANASSAS, Va. – Drivers traveling on northbound Prince William Parkway near Balls Ford Road in Manassas should expect overnight lane closures later this week.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, crews plan to close the parkway’s right lane on Friday night, May 16, and Saturday night, May 17, to make repairs to the Balls Ford Road overpass.

Prince William Schools Celebrate Nearly 300 Retirees at Hylton Performing Arts Center

MANASSAS, Va. – Hundreds gathered last night at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas to honor nearly 300 Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) employees who are retiring this year.

According to PWCS, 278 educators, administrators, and support staff were recognized during the ceremony for their years of dedication to students across the county. The honorees included those who officially submitted retirement notices between April 2024 and April 2025.

Meet Prince William County’s Newest Firefighters

BRISTOW, Va. – The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue just celebrated a major milestone for its newest recruits. On Wednesday, May 7, Recruit Class 2024-3 officially graduated in a ceremony held at Grace Life Community Church in Bristow.

According to a press release from the department, the ceremony was led by Battalion Chief Scott Arft and honored 26 individuals who completed 30 weeks of demanding training. Their preparation included over 1,500 hours of instruction in fire response, emergency medical services, and specialized rescue techniques at the Public Safety Training Center in Nokesville.

New Sidewalk on Old Bridge Road Makes It Safer to Walk Around Lake Ridge

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A new stretch of sidewalk along Old Bridge Road is making it easier—and safer—for people in Lake Ridge to get around without a car.

According to a press release from Prince William County, the Department of Transportation has finished installing about 700 feet of sidewalk on the north side of Old Bridge Road, between Oakwood Drive and Forest Hill Road. The project connects neighborhoods to three local schools, a future park and trailhead, a community pool, and more.

Manassas GOP Calls for Action on Jail’s Immigration Policy Ahead of Meeting

MANASSAS, Va. – The Manassas City Republican Committee is calling on residents to fill the room at the next Prince William-Manassas Regional Jail Board meeting, pushing for the jail to renew its 287(g) immigration enforcement partnership with federal authorities.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the Adult Detention Center, 9320 Lee Avenue in Manassas.

Prince William Water Accepting Applications for 2025 Water Academy

The Academy, which started in 2017, hopes to educate Prince William County adults about “their water utility, water and wastewater infrastructure and treatment, and our shared role in environmental stewardship,” Rebecca Wadman, the organization’s education and outreach coordinator, said.

Wadman said the Academy tries to provide adults and high school and college students in the area with an understanding of how water is provided and can spread the information with loved ones.

Haymarket Council Approves Worship Space in QBE Building With Yearly Reviews, Traffic Study Requirement

HAYMARKET, Va. – The Haymarket Town Council voted unanimously on May 5, 2025, to approve a special use permit (SUP) allowing a religious group to use leased space at the QBE Building on Washington Street for public assembly, adding several conditions—including an annual review of the permit.

The decision comes after nearly eight months of review by the town’s planning staff, Planning Commission, and Town Council, marking what staff described as a “normal review procedural timeline” for a special use request of this type.

Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Minnieville and Prince William Parkway

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in a collision at the intersection of Minnieville Road and Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on May 10. Investigators say the rider of a 2019 Indian FTR 1200 motorcycle was heading east on Minnieville Road when he ran a red light at Prince William Parkway. At the same time, a 2019 Kia Soul, traveling westbound, began turning left onto Prince William Parkway when the two vehicles collided.
