The Center Square: “Former President Donald Trump is far and away the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, but new polling digs into why the former president dominates when it comes to the working class.”
“The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll of 2,573 likely voters, conducted in conjunction with Noble Predictive Insights, shows Trump’s support is highest among Republican voters making less than $50,000 and those without a college degree.”
“A northern Virginia county is acknowledging that it underreported President Joe Biden’s margin of victory over Donald Trump there in the 2020 presidential election by about 4,000 votes, the first detailed accounting of errors that came to light in 2022 as part of a criminal case,” reports Matthew Barrakat at the Associated Press.
Late tonight, there is word that the Stafford Democrats’ nominating caucus will start later than planned.
As we told you earlier this month, county Democrats will meet to nominate candidates for the Stafford Democratic Committee for the 2024-25 term. The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the county government center, 1300 Courthouse Road.
“Kicking off the first day of Virginia’s 2024 legislative session, Gov. Glenn Youngkin gave the annual State of the Commonwealth address,” reports Morgan Sweeney at The Center Square.

Stafford County Democratic Committee: “The Stafford County Democratic Committee hereby issues this “Call to Caucus” to notify Democrats of the upcoming committee reorganization to be held on Sat., Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. at the Stafford County Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Board Chambers. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for check-in. Only those Democrats who have filled out a Caucus Participation Form by 9 a.m. or are in line to do so will be allowed to participate in the election of committee members for the 2024-2025 term. The caucus will be followed by a meeting of the newly-formed committee where officers will be elected.”
“The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is facing a looming budget shortfall, and Virginia Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner and Maryland Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen are hoping to ease operational costs related to national security and counterterrorism efforts, reports Sarah Roderick-Fitch at The Center Square. “The four congressmen penned a letter to President Joe Biden requesting his administration include at least $30 million in the FY25 budget to offset expenses stemming from supporting counterterrorism and national security concerns.”
“Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has released his proposed fiscal year 2025-2026 “Unleashing Opportunity” budget, replete with his characteristic tax relief and a record investment in education,” reports Morgan Sweeney at The Center Square.
