The Virginia State Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of five Prince William Board of Supervisors accused of violating the state’s open meetings laws in the hours after unprecedented riots. 

Richmond attorney Patrick McSweeny argued for county residents Alan Gloss and Carol Fox. Both allege the five Democrats on the Board of County Supervisors violated the law when they attended a meeting of the county police department’s Citizen Advisory Board, which hastily gathered at noon on May 30, 2020.

Police tell us the shooting in Dale City we first told you about Monday afternoon happened during a home invasion.

On October 31 at 1:44 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 13400 block of Orangewood Drive in Dale City to investigate a shooting. Upon arriving, officers found a 51-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body and provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived.

While future skirmishes loom in the form of rezonings, arguably the biggest land-use decision in Prince William County’s history is expected to be made Tuesday, Nov. 1.

That’s when the Board of County Supervisors will hold a public hearing and plans to vote on the proposed PW Digital Gateway. The hearing is on the request from dozens of landowners to designate 2,139 acres in western Prince William County for data centers. Specifically, it is to change the land currently designated as agricultural/estate and environmental resource in the Comprehensive Plan to technology/flex, parks and open space, county registered historic site and environmental resource overlay.

Stafford offices, departments, facilities, and all courts will be closed on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, for Election Day. Both locations of the residential and commercial services of the R-Board/Regional Landfill (Eskimo Hill and Belman Road) will remain open.

The Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact for Military Children awarded five Stafford County Public Schools with 2022 Purple Star Designation; Margaret Brent Elementary and North Stafford High School for the first time, Rockhill, Widewater, and Winding Creek elementary schools for the second time.

The Virginia Purple Star Designation applies to military-friendly schools that demonstrate a major commitment to students and families connected to the nation’s military.

On October 27 at 7:34 a.m., Prince William County police responded to the Our Lady of Angels Church at 13752 Marys Way in Woodbridge to investigate a burglary.

The investigation revealed several sheds and a trailer belonging to the church were burglarized sometime between 3 p.m. on October 26 and 7 a.m. on October 27. The investigation revealed entry was made into the trailer through the window, which was found damaged.

Stafford County mourns the passing of former County Administrator C.M. Williams, who served as County Administrator from 1984 to 2003.

Williams helped lead the county through great change and population growth. He was also instrumental in helping protect historical treasures from development and designing the George L. Gordon, Jr. Government Center.

This is a consequence of the ongoing labor shortage – specifically for heavy equipment operators and CDL driver positions. Despite the county’s efforts to recruit and reassign employees, they do not have sufficient staff to safely operate both the Landfill and Balls Ford Road Compost facility to continue to offer Sunday dropoff.

In the meantime, the agency that manages the landfill, Prince William County Solid Waste Division, says residents can apply for decals to affix on their truck windshields for faster access to the landfill and recycling center on the days the facilities are open.
