State of Stafford: Higher pay for cops, teachers, water improvements highlighted in 2022

Stafford County and the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Crystal Vanuch, Rock Hill District, are proud to release the annual “State of the County” video for 2022.

Stafford focused this year on advancing its strategic priorities for the community. Highlights of the year include a 15% pay raise to deputies with the rank of 1st Sergeant and below, one of the most significant transfers to Stafford County Public Schools ever, the construction of a new water tank, conducting a Community Survey, the launch of AskBlu – a new customer service online tool and the dedication of a new funding stream dedicated to transportation projects.

Prince William County Public Schools declare Code Orange for December 15

Prince William County Public Schools called a Code Orange, meaning students and teachers are expected to work from home tomorrow, Thursday, December 15.

According to the school division, school buildings and offices will be closed. Students are expected to learn asynchronously (asynchronous learning allows for independent learning or within a specific timeframe). Staff is expected to work remotely.

Bob Weir announced his intent to run for the vacant Prince William Board of County Supervisors Gainesville District seat.  Supervisor Peter Candland announced his resignation from the seat effective Friday, December 16.

Weir just won a seat on the Haymarket Town Council, where he has served five terms. He’s also served five terms on the Haymarket Planning Commission and has a proven track record and reputation for achieving results for the residents of Haymarket and the Gainesville District.

Hetherington’s predecessor, Rick Nealis, retired on November 30 after serving the last 30 years at the helm of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). Under Nealis’ leadership, the MCM has become one of the largest marathons in the country and world, and the organization has evolved into offering numerous events of all distances throughout the year.

“While on this journey, I have been blessed to watch millions of runners discover long-distance running and accomplish their dreams. I am now thrilled to hand the Marine Corps Marathon reigns over to Alex and watch him lead “The People’s Marathon” to new levels of running greatness,” expressed Nealis. “As I move on, I urge all to remain Semper Fidelis (always faithful) to our running and values. Oorah!”
