Prince William police: “Attempted Malicious Wounding on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On July 1 at 2:17PM, officers responded to the 16700 block of Interstate Dr. in Dumfries (22026) for a report of a large party occurring in the area. As officers were investigating, they observed a woman, identified as the accused, who was actively wanted.”

“When officers attempted to make contact with the accused, she got into a vehicle and drove the vehicle towards the officers. The officers, and a nearby 37-year-old man, were able to quickly get out of the way to avoid being struck by the accused. As the accused fled the area, she struck multiple unoccupied parked vehicles before placing the vehicle in reverse and almost striking another officer. The accused fled the area at a high rate of speed. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as McKayla Nicole STRAIT. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.”

“On June 30th at approximately 7:50 p.m. Deputy D.L. Brookman responded to the Comfort Inn, located at 541 Warrenton Road, for a report of a vandalism. Staff advised a guest broke their washing machines. Deputy Brookman reviewed camera footage of the washing assault in which the suspect pushes on the washing machine door until it broke off the hinges. Another washing machine was also damaged.”

Obituaries

Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory – Dale City: “Robert Harry Tyrrell, Age 96, of Woodbridge, Va., passed away, on June 22, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Graves Tyrrell. Robert was a lifelong resident of Prince William County…He served from 1942-1944 in the Seventh Fleet, mostly in the South Pacific. He was stationed at a PT boat base in the Philippines where he worked on boat engines.”

“Robert was in business for many years, raising cattle and hogs with his grandfather and uncle. Later, in the 1950’s, Robert and another uncle went into business building Custom Homes in the fast-developing Woodbridge area. In 1950, Robert took an agriculture class offered to WWII Veterans, and he and his four classmates wanted to do something to stay in touch. So, the five friends formed the Veterans Farm Club in Manassas, VA. The club decided to start planning a fair to be held August 31, 1950. From that day forward the PWC Fair was enjoyed for 70 years. Robert was an active member for all 70 years.”


Prince William

“The investigation revealed the accused was involved in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance, a 29-year-old woman, that escalated when the accused pulled the victim to the ground. At one point, the accused retrieved a knife and threatened the victim when other occupants in the home attempted to intervene. The accused then drove his vehicle into a parked vehicle outside of the residence as the victim and other occupants retreated to a bedroom in the home. The accused attempted to force entry into the room when police arrived on the scene. Minor injuries were reported by one of the other parties. While investigating the incident, officers determined the accused was wanted for his involvement in an unrelated malicious assault that occurred on Kilhaven Ct. in Manassas on June 25.”

“Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Anthony Roni VAUGHN III, was arrested. Arrested on June 28: [No Photo Available] Anthony Roni VAUGHN III, 28, of 9513 Clematis St. in Manassas, Charged with 3 counts of attempted malicious wounding, 1 count of burglary, 1 count of assault & battery. National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms today, with some strong to severe with the greatest threat along and east of the Blue Ridge. Damaging winds and large hail are possible with storms today, and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.”
