Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club: “On the evening of 9 December, Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club held the 8th Annual Blue Santa event in Aquia Harbour. While traversing through the Harbour neighborhood, the 24 volunteers from the Lions, Leos, Aquia Harbour Police Department, and Rescue Squad collected over three pickup trucks of donations valued at over $5,000 for Empowerhouse.”

“Empowerhouse is a non-profit organization providing confidential domestic violence assistance in the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline. These services include a free and confidential 24-hour hotline, a temporary emergency shelter, information, referrals, and advocacy,” its website states.


Prince William

Prince William County Government: “The Swearing-In Ceremony for the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, the Clerk to the Circuit Court, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the Sheriff will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Merchant Hall at the Hylton Performing Arts Centers, 10960 George Mason Circle in Manassas. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and stay for the reception immediately following.”

“Those unable to attend can watch the ceremony live on the county’s YouTube channel.”


Obituaries

Albert Steven McCarthy, age 87, of Haymarket, Virginia and formerly of Dale City passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023 surrounded by his family.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce. They were married for 55 years before her death. Al and Joyce were actively involved in the Hylton Boys & Girls Club of Dale City. Coach McCarthy was a long-time youth baseball, football, and basketball coach in Prince William County, winning the Virginia State AAU 12 and under Basketball Championship in 1993. He also was an Assistant Coach with the Ocean Lakes High School Boys’ Basketball team for the 1999-2000 season in Virginia Beach where he and his wife Joyce retired in 1998. He returned to Prince William County in 2015 after the death of his wife, Joyce.

A Manassas woman died on Interstate 77 in southwest Virginia, state police report.

“Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 77 southbound in Carroll County on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at 8:32 p.m. A 2004 Acura MDX, driven by Thomas P. Southard, 67, of Manassas, Va., went off the left side of the interstate and hit an embankment at the three-mile marker. The vehicle also overturned. Southard suffered minor injuries.”


Prince William

A pedestrian struck on December 12 in Dale City has died. Prince William police reported the following information.

“Fatal Crash Investigation – On December 12 at 5:33PM, crash investigators responded to the area of Hoadly Rd and Queen Chapel Dr in [Dale City] to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation revealed the driver of a 2015 Toyota TC was traveling east on Hoadly Rd approaching the intersection when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Hoadly Rd outside of a crosswalk, wearing dark-color clothing. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision on December 21. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was not injured. Crash investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact police.”
