Following a record-breaking fundraising gala in October 2023, STEP VA has moved into its new home on Bourbon Street.
Last fall, a 10-year anniversary gala brought in a record $50,000 for the organization. One month later, the group obtained its own space for the first time. STEP VA had been holding meetings in rooms rented or borrowed from local businesses and houses of worship to hold meetings. “Our dream is to create a space where people with disabilities feel welcome and can freely express their creativity in a space that prioritizes their sensory needs,” said Carol Yeh, STEP VA secretary.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF) announces that the last remaining USMC Mounted Color Guard will appear at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on May 23 and 24. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the Mounted Color Guard and watch live demonstrations. This event is a rare occurrence for the west coast-based Mounted Color Guard.
The Mounted Color Guard’s origin dates back to 1911 during the Chinese Revolution when the Mounted Detachment, known as the “Horse Marines,” was the Marine Corps’ only designated cavalry unit. Well, partner, there’s a project in the works to shore up a slope that holds up Route 608, also known ’round these parts as Brooke Road, in Stafford County. This here project stretches between Camp Geary Lane and Marlborough Point Road, and it’ll be underway from late May through July 2024.
Now, don’t you fret too much about gettin’ through, ’cause traffic on Brooke Road will still be allowed to mosey on through the work zone at all times. But, y’all should be ready for some short delays.
Hosted at 12745 Sea Ray Lane, the evening promises a lively atmosphere, great food, and plenty of laughs. Whether you’re an aspiring comedian or just love comedy, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
