Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) has appointed Dr. Christopher Newman, MD, MBA, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dr. Newman, who has been with MWHC since 2019 as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, takes over following the departure of Dr. Michael McDermott, who served as CEO since 2015.

McDermott announced his resignation in December 2024 to become the President and CEO of Montage Health, a healthcare system based in Monterey, California. McDermott expanded services during his tenure at MWHC, strengthened the system’s financial position, and advanced its reputation as a leading healthcare provider in the region, according to a press release.

Meet Roxy: A Loving Pup Looking for a Second Chance

The staff and volunteers at the Prince William County Animal Services Center can’t stop raving about Roxy: “She’s such a sweet girl,” “She’s so gentle,” and “Roxy is such a great dog!” This affectionate pup is looking for a loving family after experiencing a difficult transition.

Roxy was a cherished pet, but when her family lost their job and had to relocate out of state, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. She previously lived with children—ages 4 and 12—and was great with them most of the time. However, since younger kids may struggle with boundaries and gentle touch, she would likely thrive best in a home with children aged 7 or older.
